Jim Tressel Resigns According to the Dispatch

According to the main Columbus newspaper, the Dispatch, Jim Tressel has resigned as the head coach of Ohio State. With NCAA violations still in progress against the coach, a self-imposed suspension and fine in place for 2011, and six of his players being penalized by the NCAA, the University has accepted this resignation prior to a hearing the school has been preparing for in August.

Stories have continued to come out over the course of the past three to six months when the players were first found to have sold memorabilia to a local tattoo parlor owner. Jim Tressel first reported that he did not know of the violations prior to the university, but then emails were discovered that he received from a local lawyer early in 2010. Recent developments have included discounted car sales to players and players families by a local salesman and Ray Small discussing his personal sales of memorabilia and discounted car ownership.

Coach Tressel leaves with an incredible run of Big Ten titles and a winning percentage that had not been achieved since Woody Hayes coached the program.
