This Labor Day Buckeye fans are in for a special treat when Ohio State plays their first game of the season against Virginia Tech at 8pm in Lane Stadium. The broadcast will be on ESPN. Frank Beamer led the Hokies last season to a 7-6 record with a signature win against the Buckeyes. They came up lame for 3-5 in the conference, finishing fifth in the ACC Coastal Division.

The VT defense looks to be strong again this season with Bud Foster returning as coordinator. They have a pair of defensive ends in Ken Ekanem and Dadi Nicolas that should provide some trouble for OSU quarterbacks. And their secondary isn’t bad either, led by Kendall Fuller. The defense led their conference in sacks last year with 48 and will be let loose once again. Tackle Luther Maddy is a force in the middle and cornerback Brandon Facyson is touch on the edge.

The Hokies problems have not been their defense but their offense. Michael Brewer, their starting quarterback, did well against Ohio State but had some serious accuracy problems during the year. In addition to the running backs having trouble getting yards, Brewer threw 15 interceptions last year with only 18 touchdowns.

Their special teams weren’t great last year and consistency at several offensive spots has been an issue. In addition, You won’t see too many new faces as the team does not have a freshmen starter.

The Buckeyes should have some fun getting revenge on their only lose from last year.
