Damon Arnette Picked As Starting Nickel Back For OSU

Ohio State chose Malik Hooker and Damon Webb to be their starting safeties' this season. Gareon Conley, Denzel Ward, and Marshon Lattimore will be the starting cornerbacks for the team.

They did not choose a player to fill the nickel back position right away. Prolonging the decision allowed them to choose a player who could defend the pass consistently. They needed a true performer who could give them the advantage throughout the season, and especially when they face Bowling Green's quick-striking defense this coming week.

Urban Meyer, the OSU head coach, announced his decision today. He picked freshman Damon Arnette as the starting nickel back in the first week. This announcement came by way of his weekly call-in show.

Arnette was a three-star player from St Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale. The team wasn't sure if he would play cornerback, safety, or outside linebacker once he arrived.

An injury prevented Arnette from playing any football during most of the season in 2015. However, News sources are saying good things about his performance. He looked healthy and ready during practices, and he continues to look healthy and agile during Fall Camp.

The coaching staff was so impressed with his performance, they decided to place him in the rotation for cornerback. His main position however will be the starting nickel back throughout the season.
