Small Guard Luther Muhammad Commits to Ohio State

2018 New Jersey small guard Luther Muhammad committed to the Ohio State basketball team and Chris Holtmann last week. He was one of four recruits to commit to the Buckeyes during the week that took their 2018 team from non-existent to one of the better teams in the country. Holtmann has had trouble getting players from Ohio  due to the late start he walked into. But his ability to pull players from around the country is something that should benefit the Buckeye program for years.

Luther Muhammad

Muhammad, 6’4” 185 lbs.,  comes from Jersey City New Jersey Hudson Catholic. He is  a considered a four star prospect and the 89th best player in the country.

Ohio State also picked up Jaedon LeDee and Duane Washington Jr. prior to getting the commitment from Muhammad.

Muhammad’s top five included Virginia, West Virginia, Xavier, Ohio State and St John’s. He visited OSU on September 9th for the Oklahoma game, the same weekend LeDee was in Columbus. Holtmann also made an in-home visit on the 18th of September.

As a junior he averaged 16 points a game, 3 assists, and 2 steals. He also played for NY Rens AAU over the summer. He is the best pure scorer of the 2018 recruits and should develop well under the coaching staff in place at Ohio State.

Chris Holtmann pursued Muhammad at Butler and then offered him when he took over the Ohio State job.

Ohio State Needs Guards

Muhammad can play either guard spot in college, helping the Buckeyes shore up their shortage of guards. He has a wide wingspan and can guard well all positions.

Holtmann has no issue playing a lot of guards and only has CJ Jackson on the roster after this year. Getting 3 or 4 guards in the 2017 class is vital for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State would still love to add Elijah Weaver to the class who also visited campus with Muhammad and LeDee.
