Free Sites Are Better

Are the writer’s die-hard fans?  News savvy?  Able to filter through to the most desirable stories?  Have a knowledge that is beyond opinion and has support?

Writer’s Q&A: Without naming any site, do you prefer the subscription based Ohio State websites or the free Ohio State websites? Consider content, community, and breaking news ability.

Bill Smith: How could anyone prefer any subscription or pay site when brutusreport.com has all the Buckeye news that we need? Unfortunately, the owners of many good sites with quality content are getting greedy. More sites every day are becoming pay sites. That is not what Al Gore had in mind when he invented the Internet.

Pete Quint: Free because I'm a cheap S.O.B.  I applaud the sites that have a large enough subscription base to keep the writers employed full time.  I'm also a bit jealous of their hard work and good fortune.  In the past I have seen their content and the information I have found doesn't seem to be much better that what I can get on free sites.  Unless you have to know everything that Bill Kurelic has to say and see all the recruit videos I don't think the pay sites are any better than the free sites.

Eric Geier: I'm not big on subscription based websites, sure it is a great way to generate profit, but there is always going to be another site that's free and produces the same content.

Ryan Leonardo: Without a doubt the free sites.  The subscription sites don't offer much more than a free one.  It all depends on the writers and moderators too.  Are the writer’s die-hard fans?  News savvy?  Able to filter through to the most desirable stories?  Have a knowledge that is beyond opinion and has support?  Those are the things that make BrutusReport.com a great spot for any Ohio State fan that is looking for information.

Steve Patterson: The pay sites have the inside track with press passes to Ohio State events and have full-time staff that can turn out articles at a very fast and news breaking pace. There’s a reason they can charge a fee. There is one site that is free and also has press access. If that one site would also cover recruiting and upgrade their site software, I think it could lead in fan base.
