Devoe Torrence Cleared

Former Ohio State Running Back prospect Devoe Torrence was cleared of rape charges on Wednesday last week and is seeking scholarship offers for college.

By Steve Patterson

Talented Player

Devoe Torrence was one of the best running back prospects in the State of Ohio for 2008 and played well in the Offense-Defense All-Star Bowl in January. Rated a 4 Star prospect by Rivals.com he was recruited by Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, and Cincinnati. His brother is current Buckeye wide receiver Devon Torrence.

Rape Charges

Stark County brought charges of rape against Torrence earlier this year and his one day trial happened last week ending in a clearing of his arrest due to insufficient evidence. A number of players from Washington Massillon were under investigation for sexual misconduct with minors and Torrence ended up being charged along with 12 other teenagers. Torrence denied any wrong doing and the sixth-grade girl involved changed her story during testimony from not remembering to sexual abuse.

Ohio State

Devoe Torrence was to be the only running back prospect in the 2008 class for the Buckeyes but after running into issues with the law, his scholarship offer was taken back. Ohio State didn’t sign a true running back with Torrence’s offer being pulled very late in the recruiting process.

Jermil Martin from Cleveland Glenville was brought in as a full back in the class while Lamaar Thomas from Fort Washington Maryland is considered a wide receiver but played well in the Army All American Bowl at his high school position of tailback.
