Thad Matta Wins Again With Jae'Sean Tate

Thad Matta lands another shining star for the Buckeye’s 2014 class. This is 2 days with 2 commits. This time it was Pickerington Center small forward, Jae'Sean Tate giving a pledge to the Buckeyes. He did this on Monday, right after Bates-Diop initiated a commit during a late Sunday phone call to the coach.

"I gave a commitment to the best university: Ohio State," Tate said on Monday. "It is now time to celebrate."

This phenomenal basketball player is 6 feet and 200 pounds. His father is Jermaine Tate, a former Ohio State player. He first received an offer from the college in the summer of 2012 but took some time in making his decision.

Tate received offers from a variety of colleges ranging from Dayton to Xavier. He chose to stay with the Buckeyes, the team that was his favorite.  The coaching staff at OSU wasn’t certain that Tate would make a quick decision or take his time, but his time began to run out when Bates-Diop committed to the class.

"It was extremely weird how this all happened." Tate said. "We (which includes myself and my family) were sitting down in the kitchen. We were talking about what I would receive with this offer. I said that I wanted to make a decision immediately. Well, right then Matta sent my father a text. He asked when he could talk to him. I texted back and said that I pretty much had made my decision. He asked if it was a good one. We all went crazy."

Tate saw Bates-Diop commit on Sunday and knew that the window of opportunity could be closing for him if he didn't make a decision. He knew that his chances would not be as good if he did not make the decision as soon as he did.
