Devin Smith from Massilon Commits to Ohio State for 2011

The 15th commit of Ohio State’s 2011 recruiting class came with wide receiver Devin Smith from Massilon Washington. The 6’2” 175 lbs prospect is rated the 44th best receiver in the country by Rivals.com. He received a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes after he performed well at their senior camp this past weekend. As a junior last year he scored 15 times and had 989 yards receiving. It was his dream to play for Ohio State, growing up in Ohio and being a fan all his life.

It didn’t take Devin Smith long to commit to the Buckeyes as rumors began circulating early this week that once he got the offer on Monday that he was ready to commit. He had other scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Penn State, Wisconsin and West Virginia to name a few. At OSU’s camp, fellow Ohio State commit quarterback Braxton Miller and Smith got to know each other and wanted to play together at the next level. Smith took a couple of days to discuss the choice with his family and then called Head Coach Jim Tressel today with his decision.

This is the second wide receiver in the class of 2011 for Ohio State which already includes Vernon Hills IL wide-out Evan Spencer. The Buckeyes are looking for three receivers in a class that could total 22. Phillip Dorsett, Ja’Juan Story and Cleveland Glenville prospect Shan Wynn also hold offers at this time. Smith was able to secure his position now which could lead one of the remaining three eager to join the class before the slots are full.

Smith is also a basketball and track star for the Massilon Tigers. He has impressive long jump and high jump personal bests. He is a tremendous athlete that can utilize his skills on the football field.
