Ohio State Enters the NCAA Tournament as a No 1 Seed

Ohio State completed the Big Ten tournament the same way they completed the regular season, on top of the conference. Beating Northwestern, Michigan and Penn State allowed Thad Matta’s team to claim the tournament title this afternoon in Indianapolis.

Penn State fought back a number of times during their 60-71 loss to the Buckeyes but were unable to secure a lead at the end of the finals game today. Talor Battle led Penn State in defeat with 24 points. Jeff Brooks also played well with 19 points and six rebounds.

Jon Diebler had a great tournament performance finishing with 15 points against the Nittany Lions. William Buford also played great again with 18 points. But Jared Sullinger was the Most Outstanding Player with three double-doubles. He finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds on the day. During the tournament he grabbed 42 rebounds which sets a school record for the annual tournament

This is the Buckeye’s second Big Ten Tournament win in a row. They also won in 2007 and 2002, although the 2002 win was vacated due to NCAA violations.

Ohio State was awarded a No 1 seed, and top overall seed, in the upcoming NCAA tournament due to their regular season and tournament performances. They will face either Texas-San Antonio or Alabama State on Friday in Cleveland.
