Mike Adams Sustains Injuries In Attempted Carjacking

Offensive tackle, Mike Adams, was drafted in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers.  The 23-year-old Adams played in 10 games in the 2012 NFL season with the Steelers and started in six of those games.  He was also given the Joe Greene Great Performance Award for his outstanding performance as a rookie with the Steelers.

Adams' luck took a turn for the worst early in the morning on Saturday, June 1, 2013.  He was stabbed twice in what appears to be an attempted robbery and carjacking in Pittsburgh's South Side, a popular bar district.  Adams is currently hospitalized at UPMC Mercy recovering from his injuries.  He underwent surgery for injuries sustained in the attack to his abdomen and left forearm.

No arrests have been made yet in the case; however, police say that Adams reported being confronted by three men with a knife and handgun at around 3 a.m. that morning.  Not having his car keys, the men stabbed him and fled the scene.  Adams then sought help at a nearby restaurant.

The Steelers General Manager, Kevin Colbert, reports that he is expected to make a full recovery.  Coach Mike Tomlin estimates that Adams will be released back to football training and activities within the next six to eight weeks.  Organized training activities have already begun for the Pittsburgh Steelers and will begin training camp in late July.  Once he can return to normal training activities, Adams is expected to be the starting right tackle.
