Ohio State Football Team Lands German Kicker Sean Nuernberger

Ohio State football continued its extensive recruitment recently when a new kicker was added to the roster for next season. Sean Nuernberger, who was born in Germany, confirmed that he would be part of the Buckeyes' 2014 recruiting class on Twitter on June 11.

He will join 10 other young athletes who are also part of the class of 2014. The kicker/punter was also reportedly showing interest in joining other colleges, with Purdue, Kentucky, Louisville and Notre Dame all rumored to be taking an interest in the youngster.

The chance to play for Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer proved too much of temptation for the kicker from Buckner, Kentucky, though. The youngster had impressed the Buckeyes' staff with his ability and attitude during the three-day kicking camp which Ohio held recently.

His recruitment is an important step towards building a successful campaign next season for the Buckeyes, who have struggled to recruit a kicker or punter in recent months. Place kicker Drew Basil has been handling some of the team's punting duties, though coach Meyer has been seriously short of options, as well as decent competition for places, in this part of his squad.

Nuernberger will be joined at Ohio State by Australian punter Cameron Johnston, who recently accepted the offer of a scholarship to the college. Although the Aussie has never played American football before, he has a huge kick on him, a legacy of his time spent playing Australian Rules football in his homeland.

That means that Meyer now has options at both punter and kicker for next season, which cures what was looking like being a major headache for the coach. Nuernberger's ability to both kick and punt also gives the Buckeyes roster a look of flexibility which will please Meyer further.

With this improvement to their special team prowess, Ohio State are looking set to produce some impressive displays next season.
