Mike Mitchell discusses his move to Texas Tech

It's official, we have reached a quiet time during the college football calendar. However, there was one major story last week. The former Ohio State Linebacker, Mike Mitchell announced he was transferring to Texas Tech.

Mitchell spoke about the transfer in an exclusive interview with FOX Sports. He talked about his decision to move and reasons why he was keen to become one of the Red Raiders.

So, why did Mike Mitchell decide Texas Tech were a good bet?

He stated he admired the coaches and he thought he would fit into the team well. Mitchell felt he could become a valuable team member and he talked about his great relationship with Coach Wally (the defensive co-coordinator Matt Wallerstedt). Matt recruited Mike Mitchell when he was fresh out of high school, he got on with him well then, so he felt he would be fine at Texas Tech.

So, did Coach Wally enlarge on future plans to use Mitchell on defense?

The Red Raiders are renowned for their offense, but their defense has improved a lot. Coach Wally wants Mike Mitchell to play on defense and take the team to another level. The coach wants Mitchell to play outside and inside and he wants Mitchell to come in from all angles.

Has Mike Mitchell ever met Coach Kingsbury from the Texas A&M?

It appears that Mitchell had never met the guy before, however, he reckons he might have shaken his hand at one point. Mitchell decided that Coach Kingsbury came over as a good honest guy, a down to earth coach who gets on well with his team players. Mike Mitchell said that the players coach was admired by all of the guys in the team and he for one couldn't wait to play for him.
