Ohio State Moves Up In Polls After Rutgers Rout

The Ohio State Buckeyes moved higher to number 12 in the coaches poll after routing Rutgers Saturday in the Ohio Stadium. The poll released Sunday is disappointing to Buckeye fans who are looking to move into one of the top spots before the season comes to an end. Rutgers wasn’t much of a challenge for OSU who finished the game with an impressive 56 points only allowing the Scarlet Knights to score 17. The BCS no longer includes the Coaches poll in calculating who plays for the National Title at the end of the year so it is irrelevant for the most part.

Baylor lost over the weekend to West Virginia and finds itself in the 13 spot, providing room for the Buckeyes to move up. Notre Dame also lost this past weekend but their loss to Florida State only led to them falling 3 spots to No 8. Mississippi State, Florida State, Ole Miss, and Marshall are now the only undefeated teams in the country. The Big Ten is represented by four teams in the poll Michigan State (5), Ohio State (12), Nebraska (16) and Minnesota (24).

The win against Rutgers places the current Ohio State team in the record books as the only team to win four in a row with 50+ points. JT Barrett has greatly improved since the loss to Virginia Tech and puts up great numbers week after week. Braxton Miller plans to return at quarterback next year but might not be needed the way this year is playing out. OSU put up a total of 585 yards, scoring on the first three drives with Barrett going 8 for 8. Nick Vannett got free in the end zone twice early making him one of the top performances along with running back Ezekiel Elliott who had a touchdown and 74 yards on the day.

They play Penn State this coming weekend on the road. The night game will be featured on ABC with the Buckeyes showcasing their powerful offense against a mediocre Penn State defense and a pathetic Nittany Lion offense.
