Ohio State Walk-Ons Earn Scholarships

A number of former walk-ons will now be on scholarship for their final one to two years of college courses at Ohio State. Jon Thomas may be the most recognizable as he has taken over the punting position this year with the departure of AJ Trapasso to the NFL. Thomas was the special teams Player of the Week against USC.

Thoma is now in his fifth year with the Buckeyes and after handling the holder position on field goals the last two years is now also the starting punter. He will be on scholarship when the Fall Quarter starts at OSU. Other’s going on scholarship in the Fall include Andrew Moses and Marcus Williams. Moses has been a backup offensive lineman and Williams is a running back noted for his great running in the Spring Game this past April.

In the Winter Quarter three more walk-ons will become scholarship players including Ryan Schuck, Joe Gantz and Tom Ingham. Schuck is a Junior wide receiver who joined the Buckeyes in 2008. Senior Gantz is a running back for the Buckeyes who also played lacrosse last year. Ingham is a senior defensive tackle from Centerville Ohio.
