Wide Receiver Duron Carter Ineligible for the Rose Bowl

Ohio State freshman wide receiver Duron Carter has been ruled ineligible for the January 1st Rose Bowl game against Oregon. Academic issues are preventing the productive first year wide receiver from playing in the game that his father, Cris Carter, excelled in years ago. Other Buckeyes including Robert Rose have been rumored to be is the same situation but no other players have been officially ruled out.

Duron Carter’s fall quarter grades were not good enough to allow the Fort Lauderdale Florida standout to play according the Athletic Director Gene Smith. Other players may be in the process of appealing their fall quarter grades and therefore are unsure of their outcomes at this time.

Two years ago a similar situation occurred with Donald Washington and Gene Clifford with Clifford not playing and Washington playing against LSU after an appeal. Carter will have time to improve his academic standing and be eligible to play again after the Winter quarter.

Carter is the fourth receiver on the depth chart for the Buckeyes after DeVier Posey, Dane Sanzenbaucher, and Ray Small. He played in every game so far this year with one touchdown and 176 yards on 13 receptions. His status will open up a spot for either Taurian Washington or Lamaar Thomas, two players that have been considering transfer that now get their shots.
