Ohio State Can't Stop McCoy and Texas
Quan Cosby Texas 2009

Ohio State Can't Stop McCoy and Texas

In a game that appeared to be over with 2 minutes remaining and Ohio State up by four points, Texas and Colt McCoy marched down the field with one long pass after another until Quan Cosby dived into the end-zone putting the Longhorns on top for good. Buckeye fans were ready to celebrate the end of a top-ranked-opponent losing streak that began with Florida in 2007 and continued through LSU to USC and Penn State earlier this season. But the Buckeye nightmare continues and the Big Ten as a whole looks weaker than ever with almost every team losing their bowl match-ups.

First Half

If the first half, Ohio State looked to be in command of the Longhorns controlling their offense and moving the ball well with their running attack. But Ohio State did not take advantage of their opportunities and were only able to score 2 field goals while allowing Texas one field goal. Chris Wells is the player of the half getting 91 yards on the ground but is unable to play much in the second half of the game due to a concussion. His totals for the game included 106 yards rushing and 21 yards receiving.

Third Quarter

In the third quarter of the game, Ohio State only played defense while their offense could not stay on the field. Texas had the ball 11 minutes of the 15 minute quarter with McCoy passing for 310 yards in the third quarter alone. Texas came out and scored on their first possession of the quarter and their final possession of the quarter. Ohio State punted two times on three-and-outs but began to make the adjustments needed before the break and they moved the ball down the field with Boeckman at quarterback.

Fourth Quarter

The adjustments made in the third quarter continued to payoff. Ohio State used Boeckman for passing and they run the inside option with Pryor but allowed McCoy and Texas to score with only 16 seconds remaining. A nice trick play put Terrelle Pryor in the corner of the end-zone for a jumpball and the 6'6" quarterback came down with the touchdown to close the gap in the score early in the quarter. Then Ohio State put together a nice drive utilizing the pass and the running attack of Daniel 'Boom' Herron who broke through the left side for a touchdown to put the Buckeyes ahead with little to no time remaining. Ohio State looked to be hoping time would run out and thought they had sealed the deal when Chemdi Chekwa stopped Jordan Shipley short of a first down on a fourth down play for Texas. But the spot was favorable for Texas and the drive that won the game continued.
