Melvin Gordon Has Led Wisconsin To The Championship Game

Wisconsin Iowa Football

Melvin Gordon is a big reason Wisconsin is in the Big Ten Championship game this coming Saturday with a Big Ten leading 2260 yards and 29 touchdowns. They will play Ohio State Saturday at 7pm. He proved that he can run over some of the best defenses in the country when he put up 7 big runs against Nebraska just last month.

His long strides and speed make him difficult to catch once he gets beyond the line of scrimmage. His yards and touchdown totals have put him in position to win the Heisman Trophy at the end of the season if everything goes well.

Ohio State Welcomes Skidding Hoosiers on Saturday

Ohio State (9-1) has had some trouble stopping the power running backs in the Big Ten this year and faces another this weekend in Indiana’s Tevin Coleman. The noon kickoff this weekend in Columbus will be a nice home coming for the Buckeyes that faced Minnesota on the road last Saturday. The Buckeyes will be favored by 30+ points and need a break from a tough couple of games to get healthy and let some younger players get some experience. The Buckeyes aren’t concerned about the yards on the ground that they have given up as they have won those games and have moved up to 6th nationally, and are looing at breaking into the top 4 before the end of the season.

Ohio State Travels to Minnesota After Season Changing Michigan State Win

When Ohio State lost to Virginia Tech in week two of the season, they fell off the face of the earth for many not watching the program. But after winning 7 straight with a quality win on the road in East Lansing, everyone is now paying attention. This week they travel to Minneapolis to take on the 7-2 Golden Gophers in a game that cannot be overlooked.

The Buckeyes, now ranked No 8 nationally, are back in the conversation for the national playoff to end the 2014 season. Minnesota is as high as the Buckeyes coming off their win, beating Iowa 51-14 last weekend. Coach Urban Meyer is working to avoid a hangover type performance from his team when they travel Saturday for a noon kickoff on ABC. He thinks they have plenty to work on this week, including improving a defense that gave up 199 yards rushing and 358 yards passing against the Spartans. The Gophers are now ranked 25th in the polls and are looking towards the post-season as eagerly as OSU.

Ohio State Ready For 7th Ranked Spartans

Ohio State (No 13) is ready to meet Michigan State (No 7) Saturday night in primetime on national television (ABC 8:00pm) on the road. The underdog Buckeye coaches were asked after the Illinois win about plays from last year’s Big Ten Championship game that they still think about. Tom Herman hasn’t thought about the 4th and 2 play call that lost the game for OSU last year, at least not since fall camp began and the coaches put all their focus on this year’s team. He did talk about the challenge that playing Michigan State’s highly regarded defense is for the Buckeyes. He has been busy this week watching film of the MSU defense to find something that has worked against them that the Buckeyes can duplicate. Oregon and Nebraska are games that Michigan State played that the Buckeyes can study and steal some offensive formations and plays.

Ohio State Moves Up In Polls After Rutgers Rout

The Ohio State Buckeyes moved higher to number 12 in the coaches poll after routing Rutgers Saturday in the Ohio Stadium. The poll released Sunday is disappointing to Buckeye fans who are looking to move into one of the top spots before the season comes to an end. Rutgers wasn’t much of a challenge for OSU who finished the game with an impressive 56 points only allowing the Scarlet Knights to score 17. The BCS no longer includes the Coaches poll in calculating who plays for the National Title at the end of the year so it is irrelevant for the most part.

Ohio State Looks To Continue To Roll Against Maryland

If you ask me, and others, Maryland sports have a very obvious pecking order with hoops at the very top, football next, after which the rest of the entertaining things like lacrosse and soccer.  Unlike most universities, Maryland football doesn't possess a clear-cut, standard rivalry game that places some strange item from the very early 1900s at risk annually.  Among their most significant "rivals" must be Virginia, however the meeting has just been once-a-year since 1957, and with Maryland becoming a member of the Big Ten, there's no guarantee that they'll carry on and participate in the game going forward.  Furthermore, what damages Maryland-Virginia with regards to its rivalry game durability is the fact Virginia has two larger rivals besides Maryland: Virginia Tech and North Carolina.

The Buckeye players have an ardent fan base. They are probably one of the most recognized teams in all the country. Buckeyes are also still considered one of the contenders for the top spot in the game despite their loss to Virginia Tech last week.

The Kent state Golden Flashes on the other had, have had a pretty good run in the past but don’t play the level of competition or recruit the level of player that the Buckeyes do. Last week the Flashes went head to head with OSU in a nail biting game for about 10 minutes. This was the third meeting between the teams. It was over quickly.
