Cardale Jones Had the Best Three Games He’ll Ever Have

Dec 30, 2014; New Orleans, LA, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Cardale Jones (12) during the Sugar Bowl media day at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Mandatory Credit: Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports ** Usable by BS, CT, DP, FL, HC, MC, OS, HOY, CGT and CCT **

Cardale Jones took the responsible route this week when he declared that he would return to Ohio State instead of taking advantage of his great play for the final three games of the season and entering the NFL draft. Beating Wisconsin in the Big 10 Championship, beating Alabama and then winning the National Title against Oregon is a three game run that will more than likely not happen for another OSU quarterback any time soon. But Cardale valued his education and the opportunity to compete for the starting position this coming season. He began 2014 as the third string quarterback before Braxton Miller and JT Barrett were unable to play due to injury.

Ohio State and Beating the Oregon Ducks

OhioStateOregon

Ohio State has a good chance to beat the Oregon Ducks in the National Championship game Monday night for a number of reasons. Their game plan is capable to scoring on any team, their defensive line is capable of stopping the run, they can control the speed of the game, their coaching is outstanding, and they seem to be the team of destiny this year.

Urban Meyer has been in the program with the same offensive and many of the same defensive coaches for 3 years now. They know how they want to stop teams and they know how to score on teams. Oregon is capable of scoring a lot of points but so are the Buckeyes. Tom Herman’s last game with the team should be a great offensive display utilizing all the weapons they have put together recruiting kids from across the country. For the last two years they have put up 45+ points a game and over 510 yards, all built around what their quarterbacks can do. The plays are selective after much debate with all the coaches for that squad involved. And the results have been great. The basic approach is a power run game with spread were teams after defend the entire field.

Ohio State To Play the Underdog Against Alabama

bcsncg

Urban Meyer has been playing up the role of the underdog with the Buckeye team as they get ready for tomorrow night’s Sugar Bowl Semifinal game against Alabama. Overall he feels the team is excited for the opportunity and he doesn’t have to motivate them beyond the excitement they already have. The Crimson Tide is favored to win the game by 9 to 10 points. They have won three of the last five national championships, so they have the experience of playing in a big game.

Melvin Gordon Has Led Wisconsin To The Championship Game

Wisconsin Iowa Football

Melvin Gordon is a big reason Wisconsin is in the Big Ten Championship game this coming Saturday with a Big Ten leading 2260 yards and 29 touchdowns. They will play Ohio State Saturday at 7pm. He proved that he can run over some of the best defenses in the country when he put up 7 big runs against Nebraska just last month.

His long strides and speed make him difficult to catch once he gets beyond the line of scrimmage. His yards and touchdown totals have put him in position to win the Heisman Trophy at the end of the season if everything goes well.

Ohio State Welcomes Skidding Hoosiers on Saturday

IndianaHoosiers

Ohio State (9-1) has had some trouble stopping the power running backs in the Big Ten this year and faces another this weekend in Indiana’s Tevin Coleman. The noon kickoff this weekend in Columbus will be a nice home coming for the Buckeyes that faced Minnesota on the road last Saturday. The Buckeyes will be favored by 30+ points and need a break from a tough couple of games to get healthy and let some younger players get some experience. The Buckeyes aren’t concerned about the yards on the ground that they have given up as they have won those games and have moved up to 6th nationally, and are looing at breaking into the top 4 before the end of the season.

Ohio State Travels to Minnesota After Season Changing Michigan State Win

GoldenGophers

When Ohio State lost to Virginia Tech in week two of the season, they fell off the face of the earth for many not watching the program. But after winning 7 straight with a quality win on the road in East Lansing, everyone is now paying attention. This week they travel to Minneapolis to take on the 7-2 Golden Gophers in a game that cannot be overlooked.

The Buckeyes, now ranked No 8 nationally, are back in the conversation for the national playoff to end the 2014 season. Minnesota is as high as the Buckeyes coming off their win, beating Iowa 51-14 last weekend. Coach Urban Meyer is working to avoid a hangover type performance from his team when they travel Saturday for a noon kickoff on ABC. He thinks they have plenty to work on this week, including improving a defense that gave up 199 yards rushing and 358 yards passing against the Spartans. The Gophers are now ranked 25th in the polls and are looking towards the post-season as eagerly as OSU.

Ohio State Ready For 7th Ranked Spartans

MSU

Ohio State (No 13) is ready to meet Michigan State (No 7) Saturday night in primetime on national television (ABC 8:00pm) on the road. The underdog Buckeye coaches were asked after the Illinois win about plays from last year’s Big Ten Championship game that they still think about. Tom Herman hasn’t thought about the 4th and 2 play call that lost the game for OSU last year, at least not since fall camp began and the coaches put all their focus on this year’s team. He did talk about the challenge that playing Michigan State’s highly regarded defense is for the Buckeyes. He has been busy this week watching film of the MSU defense to find something that has worked against them that the Buckeyes can duplicate. Oregon and Nebraska are games that Michigan State played that the Buckeyes can study and steal some offensive formations and plays.

He became the short yardage runner this fall rushing for 5 touchdowns and 101 yards.

Ohio State Moves Up In Polls After Rutgers Rout

Rutgers_Scarlet_Knights

The Ohio State Buckeyes moved higher to number 12 in the coaches poll after routing Rutgers Saturday in the Ohio Stadium. The poll released Sunday is disappointing to Buckeye fans who are looking to move into one of the top spots before the season comes to an end. Rutgers wasn’t much of a challenge for OSU who finished the game with an impressive 56 points only allowing the Scarlet Knights to score 17. The BCS no longer includes the Coaches poll in calculating who plays for the National Title at the end of the year so it is irrelevant for the most part.
