Jake Stoneburner and Jack Mewhort Suspended

Ohio State released a statement yesterday that two potential starters for the 2012 season, tight end Jake Stoneburner and offensive tackle Jack Mewhort, had been suspended after being arrested over the weekend near the Memorial PGA Golf Tournament. Both players face a misdemeanor charge of obstructing official business after running from police officers who discovered them urinating on the side of bar in Shawnee Hills Ohio outside of Columbus.

Shawnee Hills police made the arrest and released more information about the arrest today. Stoneburner is planning on being a big part of the offensive this year under new head coach Urban Meyer. While Mewhort had moved into the starting left tackle position during the Spring at Ohio State.

The arrested happened around 2:30 am Saturday morning when three men were chased away from the Bogey Inn by police officers. Two of the men were the Ohio State Football players. The players were released after posting $2,000 in bail in Delaware County. Stoneburner was found in between cars in a Muirfield parking lot while Mewhort hid in a wooded area until police threatened to release dogs into the area to find him. A police officer fell during the pursuit and broke his thumb.
