Occasionally, unlikely events occur and, during the recruitment of Johnnie Dixon (the wide receiver from West Palm Beach), the Buckeyes were regarded as an unlikely option by many pundits. On Tuesday, this unlikely option became a reality, as the four star player pledged his allegiance to the Buckeyes, in preference to Alabama, Miami and a raft of other colleges.

America's number 107th rated player received offers from several of the big programs nationwide. He made official visits to Alabama, Ohio State, NC State and Arkansas. Also, he made numerous visits to his hometown of Miami. However, the Buckeyes were able to remain in contention, and team coach Urban Meyer managed to finalize the deal, and enlist the services of the nation's number seventeen wide receiver prospect.

Obviously, pundits questioned the wisdom of Dixon leaving the warm South Florida climate to move to Ohio, which has had snow fall and cold temperatures recently. Nonetheless, Dixon realizes that his intended future career does not allow you select where you wish to play.

Potentially, Dixon possesses the skill to make it to the league. However, he has to complete a minimum of thirty-six months of college football. The pundits think that he can be extremely successful at Ohio State football.

Originally, the new Buckeye planned to announce his choice the previous week. However, in the end, he opted not to do this, before playing in the football championship match for his state. This was to ensure that the news did not serve as a distraction. This was an early sign that he may wish to leave his home town. His decision to move away from the area could be contentious. Also, it offered the Ohio State football coaches more time to win Dixon's family over to the concept of Dixon attending college in Ohio.
