I think he is settled on staying at Ohio State,
Notre Dame is a notoriously difficult school to work for. He has already
proved himself worthy at Ohio
State so I think he will
stay until he feels he has done all he can with the position.
Writer’s Q&A: Is
Gene Smith still considering the AD job at Notre Dame or is he settled on
staying at Ohio State as he has stated?
Bill Smith: Having a son-in-law that is a ND grad, I can
verify that no AD, coach, or President will ever satisfy the ND fans. They feel
that God had ordained that they be handed the national championship in every
sport every year. Smith will not enjoy that environment.
Pete Quint: It sounds like he's settled in at OSU but the
draw of one's Alma
matter is a difficult one to ignore. I hope that Ohio
State does everything they can to keep
him in Columbus.
Eric Geier: I think he is settled on staying at Ohio State,

Ryan Leonardo: Gene Smith is staying at Ohio State. Whether Notre Dame really needs a new AD is
another question. They are looking in
all the wrong places to diagnose their problem.
They don't have the talent yet, and it will take a couple of seasons
regardless of management.
Steve Patterson: How often does an AD get the chance to
return to his Alma
matter? Ohio State takes care of their people and
it’s a great place with a lot to offer anyone. I think he does stay.
