Pearson Improves Titan Program

St. Johns Jesuit in Toledo, Ohio has done well under head coach Doug Pearson as the Titans have made 5 playoff appearances in the last 6 years. Pearson brings a spread offense with a 4-3 defense to the team and has allowed their high quality athletes to make plays on both sides of the ball. Center Jack Mewhort took his play to next level as a junior and schools across the country noticed. “Jack has incredible strength and an unbelievable work ethic. He is also smart at recognizing fronts and making the appropriate line calls.” Pearson told us about the Ohio State offensive line commit.

Dominating Defenses

Not only is he able to make the needed calls from is center position, Mewhort controls the defensive players that line up against him. “Jack really improved last year from games 5-11. He manhandled people.” Pearson said.

OSU Elite Senior Camp

Mewhort received a scholarship offer from Ohio State late in 2007 and committed to the 2009 class before the year ended. Over the summer of 2008 he attended the OSU Elite Camp according to Pearson. “Jack only attended the OSU Elite Camp for seniors.” According to reports he was the 2nd best offensive line prospect in camp but was considered by many to be better than the 1st rated Marcus Hall of Glenville Cleveland.

The School and the Coaching Staff Sells Mewhort

The reasons for Mewhort’s early commitment to Ohio State included his desire to study business and his feel for the Buckeye coaching staff. “Jack wanted a good fit. He wanted a coach that he respected well and a good business program. Obviously OSU has both of those attributes.” Pearson explained. Schools that also offered scholarships include a number of Big Ten and Mid-American Conference (MAC) programs. “Michigan State, Northwestern, All Mac, West Virginia, Cincinnati and Stanford all offered.” He said about Mewhort’s options.
