Ohio State And Dayton Flyers NCAA Tournament Connections

Sibert

It is interesting to know that the current Dayton Flyers head coach is the former assistant of Ohio State.   Thad Matta was excited to find out he would face Archie Miller in the tournament and was glad his former assistant made the dance. Apart from the leadership side, there is also a former Ohio State player, Jordan Sibert, who is now the Dayton Flyers leading scorer.

Sibert, who is currently playing for the Dayton Flyers, is shooting at 43.9 percent while Ohio State’s LaQuinton Ross is shooting at 36.2 and Lenzelle Smith Jr. at 33.6 percent. This however does not matter for Matta as he doesn't even regret Sibert having left his team because he wasn't shooting that high while he was still in the fold.

It could also be evident that Sibert is now actually living his dream of getting more playing time with the Dayton Flyers as he told Matt when leaving the team that he wanted to see the floor more.  Even though, Ohio State has always tried to stay ahead of the Dayton Flyers. They did in fact win the NIT tournament in 2008 knocking off Dayton in the NIT quarterfinals.

Inclusion of Syracuse in the second round causes Ohio State to be hesitant because of the zone defense which they have so far struggled against this year. It is evident that Ohio State has fought hard in attacking zones within the past few weeks so that might be a better matchup for the Buckeyes.  The fact that they had bit Syracuse two years ago gives them hope because of the presence of most of the team who were on the roster back then. Besides, no much to worry about because the Syracuse team has not been hot lately as they used to be, giving Ohio State some more confidence.

Ohio State is happy to being facing Syracuse in the 2nd round instead of Michigan State who has given them trouble all year long. After the Big Ten Tournament victories, OSU finished the year ranked 22nd in the polls, getting the 6th seed in the South Region on Sunday. Other Big Ten teams include Iowa which was lucky enough to be included in the NCAA Tournament.  They've remained confident all along even after losing to Northwestern in the Big Ten Tournament’s first round. Other teams include Michigan, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Nebraska.
