Former Buckeye Coach John Cooper Thinks the NCAA Should look at SEC Schools
John Cooper thinks the NCAA should take a look at both Alabama and LSU for violations he told a Cleveland radio station today. The Ohio State coach from 1988 to 2000 also felt the penalties against OSU were unreasonable in comparison to the violations at schools in the SEC. During his time leading Ohio State, they went 2-14 against teams from the South Eastern Conference.
Inducted into the College Hall of Fame in 1988, Cooper began the interview talking about the defenses in the National Championship Game. He was impressed with the defense of both teams but questioned the quarterback play. He was slightly positive on AJ McCarron from Alabama. But thought LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson was terrible.
But the big news from the interview was when Cooper discussed what he has heard about SEC schools. “I'm told that down south the Alabama's and LSUs and some of these teams that have these great players, that maybe the NCAA needs to look into their situation…” he said. He also recognized that the SEC is the best conference but felt they achieved their greatness through NCAA violations.
