Ohio State Notre Dame Fiesta Bowl

Ohio State Notre Dame Fiesta Bowl

FiestaBowl

Ohio State is in Arizona practicing for the Fiesta Bowl against Notre Dame on New Years Day. Both teams had late losses in their seasons that kept them out of the four team playoff.

Ohio State comes into the game ranked 7th while Notre Dame is ranked 8th. Both teams have huge fan bases. OSU is favored by 6.5 points.

Ohio State came back in the final game of the season against Michigan big, winning 42-13. And Michigan was supposed to be one of the best defenses in the country this year.

Defensive Tackle Adolphus Washington will not play in the game after being cited for solicitation. Joey Bosa could move inside to fill the gap. Bosa has 16 tackles for loss on the season.

Notre Dame has a great offensive line and tackle Ronnie Stanley is one of the best in the country at left tackle. He is a high NFL pick going into the spring draft. Clemson was a tough game for Stanley who hopes to finish off well against Bosa and the Buckeyes.

DeShone Kizer has come on as a duel threat quarterback for the Fighting Irish this season. He was a third string quarterback but in his first year starting has done well.

JT Barrett leads the Buckeyes, also a duel threat quarterback but has a full year of experience from last season when he won 11 games. He has run this season for 6.4 yards a carrying, the same average as starting tailback Ezekiel Elliot. Many compare Barrett to Tim Tebow, coach Urban Meyer’s most famous quarterback from the Florida years.

The Key for Ohio State is getting Elliot 20 touches so he can establish a run game. Something that did not happen when they lost to Michigan State. Notre Dame needs good decision making from Kizer, especially in the red zone where he has not been efficient this year.
