Ohio State v Rutgers 2020 Preview

OhioStatevRutgers

Ohio State (2-0) plays the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (1-1) at 7:30pm on Saturday in Ohio Stadium. With limited attendance, you can watch the Buckeyes on the Big Ten Network. Rutgers was able to beat Michigan State and is considered much improved over prior seasons. Greg Schiano has brought discipline to the program and the ability to compete with more talented teams. He even was able to pull in some talent from the area in addition to grabbing a couple transfers to enhance the group.

Ohio State Offense 2020

Ohio State should get a chance to play some young players in the 2nd half including freshman quarterbacks CJ Stroud and Jack Miller III. This will not affect Justin Field’s Heisman stats as he will rack up enough passes, touchdowns and yards in the first half that he will still be first place in the race for 2020.

The running game for Ohio State should have a good game with transfer Trey Sermon scoring for the first time this season. Steele Chambers should also get a good number of carries and do well with those that he is given, similar to week 1 against Nebraska. If they get too run heavy, Rutgers has the ability to stuff some runs so OSU will need to keep the attack varied.

Rutgers Defense

Rutgers has a strong defense but has not been tested the way Ohio State will test them Saturday. They can stop the run but the Buckeyes have too many options for the Scarlet Knights to stop. OSU can pass their way out of any run issues they might have during this game.

Rutgers Offense

Rutgers offense is nothing to be scared of with a couple of playmakers. Their best running back against the Spartans last week was Isaih Pacheco who only averaged 3.2 yards per carry but was able to get into the end-zone twice. Receiving, they spread the ball around with pretty good averages for Bo Melton, Aron Cruickshank, Isaih Pacheco and Shameen Jones. But their quarterback Noah Vedral was 18 for 29 with an interception last week, which would not get the team a win against Ohio State.

The Ohio State defense could use this game as a way to determine their best options in the secondary after losing Cameron Brown.

The spread for this game is Ohio State –37.5.
