About his
being a finalist, Brian told Diverse “I appreciate all the honors and
recognition I have received as a part of Ohio State,
but this one is different because it encompasses so much. Just the fact that it stands for Arthur Ashe
and his values says a lot about the award. They are not simply looking for the
best athlete, but a person who does well in the classroom and reaches back into
the community, a real student-athlete. It’s definitely a tremendous honor.”
Diverse also spoke with Coach
Tressel. “Brian represents the football
program and Ohio State at the top level in the classroom,
on the field and in outreach. This is just another acknowledgement of an
outstanding young man from a wonderful family,” Coach Jim Tressel said. “It is
an exceptional honor to be recognized for the same attributes that distinguished
Arthur Ashe. I know the Robiskie family and Brian’s teammates will be extremely
proud of him.”
Brian is
the son of Terry Robiskie, the NFL wide receivers coach currently working with
the Atlanta Falcons. While Terry was the
WR coach of the Browns, he showed a kindness and great appreciation to the fans
that make his job possible. Terry hosted
the Ladies' Browns Fan night. Terry is
quiet but has a great understanding of the game. Brian has many of those same traits.
Brian has
shown a coolness under fire that is far beyond his years. He is currently one of the major reasons OSU
fans have reason to be excited about the 2008 version of the team.
Congratulations
to Brian and all the student-athletes involved in the 2008 Arthur Ashe Jr.
Sports Scholar of the Year award program.
