Adam Bellamy Earns the 17th Spot

Coming to the Ohio State senior camp couldn’t have turned out any better for Aurora defensive line prospect Adam Bellamy. The offensive lineman/defensive lineman earned himself a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes for the defensive line and quickly committed to the Buckeyes 48 hours after leaving Columbus.

Offers

Bellamy had a good number of offers which were growing by the week. Ohio State and Michigan offered the top 20 Ohio prospect the same week of June. Those two offers followed previous offers from Michigan State, Indiana, Cincinnati, Northwestern, Boston College and Vanderbilt.

Camp

The 6’4” 278lbs defensive lineman knew going into camp at Ohio State that he wanted to be a Buckeye and felt he needed to step up during the weekend on campus to show the coaching staff that he deserved an offer. He left without an offer and was considering other options when his high school coach told him Jim Tressel wanted him to call. Coach Tressel had the good news for Bellamy 24 hours after the camp ended.

The Offer

Not only did Head Coach Jim Tressel offer Bellamy 24 hours after camp ended but had put the written offer in the mail. Bellamy quickly began discussing the offer with his parents and when the offer arrived in the mail on Tuesday after the camp, he was ready to commit. He became the 17th commit of the 2009 recruiting class for the Buckeyes that should be as good as 2008 and will total between 23 and 25 players when complete.

Michigan

One of the offers that Bellamy was seriously considering before Ohio State was the Wolverine offer from Coach Rich Rodriguez. That offer came in on June 2nd shortly before the Ohio State camp which began the Friday of the same week. He was scheduled to visit Michigan’s campus shortly after the offer from Jim Tressel came in the mail. Needless to say, he cancelled his trip to Ann Arbor and is set on his future being a run stopper for the Scarlet and Gray.
