Pryor Third String QB
There will be some grumbling from Buckeye fans today as they
have their first looks at the projected depth chart for the Youngstown State
game. It appears that all-everything
superstar rookie quarterback Terrell Pryor is listed as the third stringer
behind starter Todd Boeckman and back up Joe Bauserman.

Drop Back vs Pryor
Before you get too cranky and
start calling Jim Tressel nasty names read the depth chart as such; Todd and
Joe are both drop back quarterbacks. Heaven
forbid if Todd Boeckman goes down with an injury sometime in the season the
logical immediate replacement would be Bauserman since he and Todd both share
the same quarterback styles. Pryor will
get plenty of snaps this season as the coaching staff grooms him for the
starting roll in 2009 but right now it makes sense to keep the status quo and
insert a similar quarterback to run the same system. Changing an entire offensive scheme during
the season to accommodate for Pryor’s obvious talent would through off the
rhythm of the offense. An occasional change of scheme would be a healthy way to
keep opponents on their toes but you really don’t want to change an entire
philosophy during the regular season.
In Tressel We Trust
So don’t get too bent out of shape
when you read the depth chart and head over to the water cooler to gripe to
your office buddies. Tressel’s got a
plan and he has earned our trust to make the right call.
