The Effects of USC and UCLA Joining the Big10
The NCAA has schools split up into conferences that determine standings, bracket position, and whole lot of cash. Historically, conferences have made up their membership based on regional location. However, in the last decade or so, we've seen conferences shifting and deals being made to support performance and financial sustainability. USC and UCLA have been members of the PAC 12 conference since the 1920's. They've been a staple of the conference that also includes Western-based universities like Stanford, Arizona State, and the University of Utah. In 2024, USC and UCLA will leaving the PAC 12 and joining the BIG 10, which is made up of mostly mid-Western states with hard-hitting reputations in the world of college sports. We're talking about Michigan, Nebraska, and Ohio State. The BIG 10 is currently comprised of 14 teams, so these two California teams will make the BIG 10, in reality, the BIG 16. The consequences for the PAC 12 could be detrimental, while the acquisition for the BIG 10 could be considered somewhat of an NCAA monopoly.
Historically, three states produce the most professional football players that go on to play in the NFL: Florida, Texas, and California. There are also more NBA players from California than any other state. Naturally, anyone looking for the next big football or basketball star would start the search in California. By USC leaving the PAC 12 and going to the BIG 10, they take with them a very large football fan base into the mid-west. The same is true for the UCLA basketball program, being consistently one of the top five teams in NCAA basketball year after year. With them moving to the BIG 10, USC and UCLA are providing the conference with an astronomical amount of fans committed to watching their favorite teams during the season. More viewers means higher ratings, and higher ratings means more money for anyone wanting a commercial spot on TV or advertisement space in the programs. More viewers also means higher ticket and merchandise prices along with the fans willing to pay them. This also means that the BIG 10 has a funnel into some of the top athletes having their eye on the NFL and NBA, boosting the BIG 10's reputation for producing professional athletes. The NCAA is a big business and the BIG 10 is playing the money game.

Mark Fletcher Ohio State 2023 Running Back
Mark Fletcher from American Heritage in Fort Lauderdale Florida committed to Ohio State for the 2023 season earlier this month. Considered a big back, he has provided his school with three productive high school football seasons, gaining over 2500 yards and 29 touchdowns.
At 6'1" 225 lbs. Fletcher, a four start running back, picked OSU over Penn State, Michigan, and Miami of Florida. He is rated the 7th best running back in the country. He made visits to Ohio State on April 1st, Miami on March 24th, Michigan on March 21st and was at USC on March 11th.
Crystal Ball projections made shortly prior to the commitment had Fletcher going to the Buckeyes.
Ohio State 2023 Class
Running Back's coach Tony Alford recruited Fletcher and is looking to add another back to the 2023 class. At the time of Fletcher's commitment, Ohio State had 6 commits including mostly defensive players. No other running backs are currently looking to join the Buckeye's class. Ahead of Fletcher on the depth chart are Marcus Crowley, Miyan Williams, Treveyon Henderson, Evan Pryor and Dallen Hayden.
Fletcher plays 7-on-7 with current commit Cedrick Hawkins at South Florida Express. He can catch the ball and has decent speed in space as seen in film.
American Heritage is a school Ohio State has been trying to create a relationship with for some time. So getting Fletcher is an important step for the Buckeyes in Florida.

Urban Meyer Takes Role With NIL Company
The Urban Meyer news of late is a huge college football story, along with the new Name, Image, and Likeness rules. Mr. Meyer accepting a position on the board of directors for the THE Foundation is in sync with the new rule. This rule states that college sports players can now earn money through name, image, and likeness deals with companies like Nike.
What the THE Foundation does is help improve the quality of life for the sports players on the college level at Ohio State University. So not only are the players allowed to make money where only the NCAA used to, there may be other perks to being a player at O.S.U. through The Foundation.
With all the bad news in the world today, what is happening in Ohio is welcome news indeed. For years now, people have been formulating ways to help college players receive monies for all the money they bring to the school and the NCAA. It was an off-balance partnership, with the bread winners left eating crumbs.
Urban Meyer News
One cannot help but get the impression that Urban Meyer had been working hard behind the scenes to get this done for both the player's sake and his. Maybe he "profited" from his behind-the-scenes work by way of getting fast racked onto the board, which is fine if true. It's fine, considering the players got the best deal out of it.
The prospect of getting endorsement deals when you're good enough should help spark greater competition. Competition between players for a good payday only makes the players better, the teams better, and the league itself better because of the rising talents.
It's still unclear exactly how the THE Foundation will improve their quality of life. Hopefully health insurance is on the top of the list. If the NCAA does this already, more supplemental insurance is never a bad thing. Or possibly pushing the right people to put more relevant and needed money management courses into the curriculum. Making a lot of money is one thing, but learning how to manage it will greatly improve the player's quality of life.
So all in all, the business end of this sport, in this college and others, is gaining positive press for their endeavors. The Urban Meyer news is good in and of itself, but when you couple that with the new name/image/likeness rule, you have a sport that is turning heads and, potentially, a larger fan base.

Luke Montgomery Buckeye Offensive lineman for 2023
Luke Montgomery, 6'5" 270 lbs., out of Findlay Ohio High School recently committed to the Ohio State football team for 2023. Some teams thought he could also play defensive line but was rated on the offensive line and is coming to Columbus to play that position. He said shortly after a school event that he wants to compete and win a spot with OSU.
Montgomery selected Ohio State because of the culture, coaches and teammates which were important to him. He committed to the Buckeyes at his school on the CBS HQ show. Ohio State moved from 12th in the country to 7th in the country with the commitment. So the class is well on its way to be a top 5 rated class as they seem to always finish. OSU offensive coach Kevin Wilson coached Montgomery's father when he attended Miami (Ohio), so there was more than one connection for the young prospect.
Who Recruited Montgomery
Kevin Wilson and Justin Frye for Ohio State. Bill O'Brien for Alabama. Sherrone Moore for Michigan. Mike Elston and Marcus Freeman for Notre Dame. And Robbie Caldwell for Clemson.
Montgomery had over 30 Offers including Michigan, Ohio State, Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Alabama as his favorites.
Ryan Day, line coach Justin Frye and Corey Dennis from Ohio State visited Montgomery during a basketball game in Findlay on January 14th. Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson visited Findlay for a basketball practice shortly after. Montgomery visited Ohio State with his parents at the end of January. His parents thought he was ready to commit to the Buckeyes during the visit but he waited a little longer to consider other programs.
Other visits included Alabama on June 14th, 2021, USC on April 23rd of 2021, Clemson on June 15th, 2021, Georgia on June 12th, 2021, Georgia Tech on June 13th, 2021, Michigan on June 10th, 2021, Michigan State on June 26th, 2021, Penn State on July 25th, 2021, And Oklahoma on June 19th, 2021. After each visit he came back and still had Ohio State as the top program on his board.
Montgomery is considered a 4 Star, 49th overall, 4th best offensive tackle, and the best prospect in Ohio.
Crystal Ball Predictions
Bill Kurelic, Steve Wiltfong, Sean Fitz, Justin Thind, JC Shurburtt, and Hale McGranahan all thought Ohio State. Joseph Hastings, Carson MacRae, Eric Lammers, Richard Schnyderite, Dylan Callaghan-Croley also all had Ohio State as his destination.
Started as a tight end and defensive end but has grown into the tackle positions. Has the ability to pull and make plays out in space. Has experience at a number of spots on both sides of the line. Has a high school freshman brother, Ryan, that has also been offered a scholarship by Ohio State.

Perry Eliano Joins The Ohio State Buckeyes
There has been a lot of excitement and media coverage recently, surrounding the appointment of Perry Eliano as the new coach Safeties coach for the Ohio State Buckeye’s football team, with hopes and expectations significantly raised for the coming season. Much of the fervor can be genuinely justified, especially when analyzing his previous coaching record, which dates all the way back to the start of the century in 2001.
Perry Eliano Coaching Career
After a couple of years as an Assistant Graduate, Eliano went on to coach both running backs and wide receivers at Central Arkansas, and then after just one year away at Sam Houston, he progressed to secondary coach when he returned to the 'Natural State', right up until 2010. He then became the special teams co-ordinator for UTSA, before moving on to become Associate Head Coach at Bowling Green, in 2016. Within four years he had moved to Cincinnati to take on a similar position there, having a role with the Cincinnati Corner-Backs.
As a safety during his own career, it is obviously advantageous to Eliano that those experiences mean he is no stranger to the position, and as a consequence can put into practice everything acquired during those years and quite rightly be regarded as something of a specialist. Coaching in and around the Ohio is not actually anything completely new to Eliano either, as he previously coached under Luke Fickell, the former defensive tackle and long time OSU coach; as well as the two years that he had at Bowling Green.
Growing up in Texas
His roots are very much in the south, Killeen in Texas to be precise, born there in the May of 1978. He was an outstanding prep defensive back, and earned for himself honors in his senior season after starring in his group, which helped the Eagles to reach the state quarter-finals in the Class 5A. He went on to play college ball at Stephen F Austin, where he also got his first job.

Justin Frye Offensive Line Coach for Ohio State
According to a source, Ohio State’s search for their next offensive line coach is over. The eagerly-anticipated hire of coach Justin Frye is expected to get formalized early this week with an announcement. Throughout the league, coaches are familiar with the innovative and creative offense that has led to a high number of rushing yards each year. Also included in the announcement will likely be an additional title, such as run game coordinator. The Buckeyes are closing in on a deal with Frye, sources said.
I think this will be a really nice move, he brings the knowledge, experience and track record of success. The current OSU offensive linemen are familiar with him and he can hit the ground running.
Replacing Greg Studrawa
In replacing Greg Studrawa, the Buckeyes are hiring Justin Frye (38 years old), an Indiana native who most recently coached at UCLA. Prior to that, he was a graduate assistant at Florida (2009-2010) and offensive line coach at Boston College (2013-17). Much of Coach Justin Frye's success off the field begins with his instincts as a player. After all, he played college football at Indiana University for 4 years.
Justin Frye and Ryan Day
Frye's history of working with Ryan Day is also noteworthy because both men have a track record of producing top-notch results. They did it in similar fashion at Temple, where an improved offensive line helped the Owls go 9-4 and win their second bowl game in school history.
Justin Frye at UCLA
In his first season at UCLA, Justin Frye directed an offensive line that helped the Bruins improve from 67th to fifth in the FBS by averaging 185.6 rushing yards per game. Prior to Frye’s arrival, UCLA averaged 152.8 rushing yards per game over the previous two seasons. In 2018, UCLA running back Joshua Kelley tallied 1,243 yards on the ground, which ranked 10th in school history for a single campaign.

Ohio State Vs. Utah Rose Bowl Game
The upcoming Ohio State vs. Utah Rose Bowl game is perhaps one of the games that will have a lot of meaning to the involved players and fans across the nation. First, it is a game that may give insights into what 2022 would look like for both teams. Additionally, many fans would want to know how many players would be sitting out the Bowl game even though no one has opted out of the Bowl yet. Those players will be avoiding injury to enter the NFL draft as high as possible in the Spring.
Ohio State (10-2) will need to ensure that they have their entire team to beat the Pac 12 Champion Utah (10-3). Even though, still, things do not look so promising on their side. For instance, Oregon is one of the teams that beat Buckeyes, yet we have seen the Utes destroy them twice. This makes the intrigues of the game even more exciting. Has Ohio State improved enough since their opening game to beat a team far superior to Oregon?
How do you watch the game?
The game will be played on New Year’s Day; there is no doubt that many fans will be flocking the stadium to get a glimpse of the event there. However, if, for whatever reason, you cannot make it to the Rose Bowl Stadium, you can stream the game online. Several digital platforms such as ABC, FOX, CBS, ESPN, and BIG Ten Network can bring the live game to you uninterrupted. These channels are all available on fubo TV.

How will Ohio State perform when they have the ball?
After yielding to TTUN, Ohio State would want to make sure that they open the New Year with an impressive win. Besides, so far, none of the Ohio State players has opted out of the Rose Bowl game because they do not want to leave with a bad taste on their mouths. Therefore, the chances are that they will utilize every chance to attack. That starts with their three top receivers, Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Ohio State also has one of the best freshman runners in the game in Treveyon Henderson. The Buckeye offense is explosive and ranked first overall in the total offense and second in scoring this year.
How will Utah Perform when they have the ball?
Since Utah has performed well in their previous games, you do not expect them to loosen the grip when opening the New Year. They are going to defend to avoid any sought of humiliation and at the same time attack to secure a safe win. Their 1000 yard rusher Tavion Thomas will be ready to show his talents in the national spotlight. On special teams they have a quality returner in Britain Covey who averages 30 yards per kick return and has scored twice this year.

History of Jim Knowles, Ohio State Defensive Coordinator
Since Ohio State is hiring Jim Knowles as its defensive coordinator, it is crucial to have a brief history of the new Ohio State defensive coordinator. Knowles has already accepted the new role of shoring up a unit that some will agree had a rough time at various points this fall. Although most people will claim that they know Knowles well, the reality is that are some things that you probably didn't know.
What you should know about Jim Knowles Defensive Coordinator
On April 16, 1965, Jim Knowles was born and graduated from Cornell in 1987. He has been on the defensive end for many clubs, including Big Red Football. Further, he served as an assistant coach at the University of Mississippi and Western Michigan University. On December 28, 2009, the Duke under the head coach David Cutcliffe named him the defensive coordinator. Further, on January 29, 2018, Oklahoma State hired him as the defensive coordinator, and his performance has always been incredible.
A Track Record of Improvement
During Knowles's four-year tenure in Stillwater, Oklahoma State's defense improved each year progressively. Likewise, when the Duke tasked him with their team's defense, he also showed significant signs of improvement. The culmination of his efforts was his side being ranked 21st. Therefore, as he takes up his new role at Ohio State, everyone will be expecting him to deliver elite results as soon as possible. He will likely transform Buckeye's defense into one of the nation's best. Nonetheless, he will be inheriting more talent than he has ever had in his previous coaching tasks.
An Incredible Coaching Background
Because Jim Knowles has more than 30 years of experience as a coach, he has a varied coaching background that renders him a man to watch in the history of defensive coordinator. He has done a little bit of everything, and even though most of his focus has been serving as a defensive coordinator, his extensive knowledge will always prove essential. Moreover, Knowles was the head coach at Cornell and brought the accumulated experience to the rest of the staff.

Ohio State Buckeyes at Michigan Wolverines 2021
Both the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines enter Saturday's game 10-1 overall looking to place first in their division of the Big Ten conference, win a shot at the Big Ten title, and be selected to play in the CFB Playoff. Ohio State enters the game a 7 point favorite on the road in Ann Arbor. Michigan has had a hard time playing Ohio State over the past two decades including the years the Buckeye's were coached by Urban Meyer and Jim Tressel.
Both teams have released their hype videos with Jim Harbaugh asking his players "What have you done today to beat Ohio State?".
Noon in Ann Arbor and televised on Fox, The Wolverines hope to reverse their fortune against the Ohio State Buckeyes who have had the best of them since 2004. With the way Ohio State beat ranked Michigan State last weekend, many are worried the game on Saturday could also be lopsided. The Buckeyes lost to Oregon the first week of the 2021 season while Michigan fell to Michigan State 37-33 on October 30th.
The teams were not able to play last year because the team from up north had lost too many players to Covid 19 quarantine to play. But now both teams are coming into The Game playing their best football of the year with the Wolverines winning three straight after their loss. Both teams coming into this game with a plan, knowing what they want to do on the field.
When Ohio State has the Ball
CJ Stroud has looked impressive after coming back from a one week break to rest his shoulder. Against Michigan State he threw for 6 touchdowns with 432 yards. Michigan's defense has been tough to beat this year ranking nationally seventh in points allowed and ninth in total yards allowed per game. Michigan will need to slow down Ohio State to keep the game close. If Ohio State can stop the pass run of Michigan and get the ball to their three 1,000 yard receivers, Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba they should be in good shape.
When Michigan has the Ball
Michigan needs to run the ball, not become one dimensional, and not let Ohio State get a lead where Michigan needs to pass every down. If Michigan gets behind, then Ohio State's defensive line can come after the quarterback and we could see a similar game to last week against the Spartans. Cade McNamara is the key for Michigan, if he can have a good game and mix up the attack, the Wolverines can stay in the game.

Number 4 Ohio State vs Number 7 Michigan State 2021
Ohio State is playing host to Michigan State in a game that could decide the East Division title.
When Mel Tucker was hired as Michigan State's coach, he promised his players that they would compete for titles. The Spartans are already pounding on the door for the second-year coach. The 2021 team is strong enough already to finish in the top 3 of the Big Ten East, if not the top 2.
How to watch?
Ohio Stadium 12:00pm November 20th on ABC
The Spartans are a significant underdog in Saturday's game against No. 4 Ohio State (9-1, 7-0) in Columbus, where 100,000 plus supporters will make the visitors' upset dream even more difficult.
Michigan State hasn't beaten Ohio State since 2015, a 5-year drought that will extend another year with a defeat Saturday in Columbus.
Buckeyes Last Week
Had the Purdue Boilermakers 59-31 at home. Quite a performance against a team that came in looking like a strong defensive team with some real ability on offense.
Michigan State Last Week
Played the Maryland Terrapins and won 40-21 at home.
When Ohio State has the Ball
There might be a lot of scores recorded with two powerful offenses on the field and the Spartans' poor pass defense.
As we saw in the Spring Game, Ohio State vs Michigan State 2021 might be one of the best games of 2021.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have a couple of capable running backs on their roster. TreVeyon Henderson has been splitting time with fellow freshman Miyan Williams, who has a 7.34 yards-per-carry average that ranks second in the FBS.
Henderson was a high school standout in Hopewell Virginia, where he rushed for 2,736 yards and 50 touchdowns in his final three seasons. He visited Michigan, Clemson, Tennessee, and Penn State before committing to Ohio State.
When Michigan State has the Ball
Kenneth Walker III of Michigan State leads major college football with 1,473 yards rushing. Only Marshall running back Rasheen Ali has more touchdowns than the Wake Forest transfer. Had a 143-yard performance in their recent Saturday win against Maryland.
This is a massive game. The winner advances to the Big Ten East championship game and the College Football Playoff.
The team to lose will likely be left out of the college championship playoff.

Ohio State Buckeyes Football vs Purdue Boilermakers 2021
#19 Purdue Boilermakers 6-3 (4-2 in conference)
3:30pm Ohio Stadium November 13th On ABC
The Buckeyes haven't played the Boilermakers since that fateful night in 2018 when Purdue came into Ohio Stadium and knocked the Buckeyes out of playoff contention in a convincing upset. Ohio State was ranked 3rd in the country at the time and lost 49 to 20 against the unranked Purdue team.
Can Purdue upset Ohio State Football again?
Purdue pulled off a second upset of a ranked team last weekend, this time topping No. 8 Michigan State 40-29 on a great performance by quarterback Aidan O'Connell. O'Connell passed for 536 yards and 3 touchdowns on 40 for 54 pass attempts.
Ohio State will return to the Horseshoe Saturday afternoon. Purdue is coming off the 40-29 win over Michigan State. How can the Buckeyes handle another upset? Follow along for live updates from Columbus all day Saturday.
Can Ohio State offense return to being prolific?
Ohio State’s quarterbacks and running backs had combined for an astounding 1,778 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns through the first nine games. Their average of 189 yards per game had the Buckeyes on pace to smash the program’s single-season rush record. But their last two games saw the points come less frequently and with more difficulty.
I feel like we’ve been waiting to see if Ohio State can return to its almighty offensive prowess of the first part of the season. Since Ryan Day took over in 2019, the Buckeyes have never finished outside the top 25 in Football Outsiders S/P+ offensive ratings. The Buckeyes have had just one season with an adjusted scoring average below 30.0.
And while Ohio State has leaned on its offense in Day's tenure, the Buckeyes have made tweaks that have turned them into something of an offensive juggernaut. Full-field reads are more difficult for opposing defenses, but I think the real boon has been the speed Ohio State is able to generate by catching opposing defenses out of position.
Ohio State Players Continue to Play Well
As the Big Ten season continues on Saturday, Ohio State has to prepare for an offense unlike any the Buckeyes have faced this season. Let’s take a look at some of the key players on the Boilermaker offense and defense.
It’s been a quiet an beginning for the Buckeyes this season as they’ve remained relatively healthy with veterans such as Chris Olave, Sevyn Banks, Thayer Munford and Jerron Cage all making the most of their senior seasons.
Rising redshirt sophomore Ronnie Hickman is a player we are all impressed with, as the linebacker from the 2019 class who sat out last year continues to impress with a strong performance in spring practice.
Watch Purdue DE George Karlaftis and WR David Bell
Ohio State will need to account for Purdue defensive end George Karlaftis, who leads Purdue in tackles for loss with 7.5.
"They're a really good defensive line," said Karlaftis recently, who leads Purdue in tackles for loss with 7.5. "They have a lot of guys coming back so they have a lot of experience upfront. They play hard every single play. They don't take plays off."
The Purdue football wide receiver David Bell had another monster game in the Boilermakers' 40-29 upset of No. 6 Michigan State. David Bell caught eight passes for 123 yards and a touchdown, but his work after the catch was what made this such a big day for him.
"David Bell's the fastest guy on our team," Purdue quarterback Aidan O’Connell said. "Just watching him out there running about will give you an idea of how fast he is."

No Six Ohio State at Nebraska 2021
Ohio State enters this Saturday's game against Nebraska 7-1 overall after a tough win against Penn State at home. Nebraska welcomes in the Buckeyes to Lincoln with a usual type of year, unranked at 3 and 6 overall. The Cornhuskers are a 14.5 point underdog. Ohio State hopes to bump their national ranking with a good performance after not impressing against the Nittany Lions.
I'm not sure what to make of Nebraska football. Do they have anything whatsoever to play for this year? There's no doubt they've gotten better under Scott Frost, but this is about the sixth team since the Huskers were good in 1994 that has gotten better each year under a new coach. All I know is I won't be surprised if they are 6-6, because if Purdue can do it, why not Nebraska.
Ohio State is undefeated in the Big Ten conference
Ohio State lost to Oregon in their second game this year and currently ranked one spot lower than them nationally. The Buckeyes hope they can finish the year with wins against Nebraska, Michigan State and Michigan and finish in the top 4. They have one of the strongest remaining schedules in the country. The Buckeyes have been solid on the road and hope to continue. They have road wins against Indiana, Minnesota, and Rutgers. Lincoln will be a little bit rowdier than the stadiums they have been in before.
Nebraska Coach Scott Frost
Nebraska head coach Scott Frost is up against a wall and looking for a win on Saturday. A talented veteran team that rebounded from a first week loss to Illinois, beating Buffalo and Fordham seemed to right the ship. But they now are 3-6 overall and looking to get back to winning. Frost a former player at Nebraska was brought in to bring back greatness to the program, but now appears to be on his way out if he cannot right the ship.
Ohio State's defense has Rebounded
The Buckeyes now lead the country with 6 defensive touchdowns and their resurgent defense is a big reason for their success. Against Penn State they were able to add seven points to their total during a time when points were not as quick coming as in prior games. Matt Barnes has been calling defensive plays since Oregon and that has made a big difference.
Nebraska Protection Issues
Quarterback Adrian Martinez has been sacked quite a bit this season for Nebraska and Ohio State is the best in the Big Ten at sacking the quarterback. Look for the Buckeyes to get after the quarterback, especially on passing downs, on Saturday.
