Buckeyes center Pat Elflein picked for the Rimington Award watch list this preseason
The year five senior is scheduled to make his debut at center against Bowling Green, on September 3.
Following the recent enrolment of Tyquan Lewis, Raekwon McMillan and JT Barrett to award watch lists this preseason, Pat Elflein was entered the watch list for the Rimington Trophy this week. Named after Dave Rimington, the former Nebraska center, the Rimington Award is given each year to the top college football center. Since its' introduction in 2000, LeCharles Bentley is the only Ohio State player to receive the Rimington Award. On December 5, the award finalists will be named, and the winner will be decided by the Sporting News magazine, the Football Writers Association of America and the Walter Camp Foundation.
Elflein will make his initial start for the Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium on September 3, against visitors Bowling Green. This is the third time Elflein has started the season for Ohio State, as he did this during the prior two seasons as well. In addition to being named as captain for Ohio State's 2016 campaign, Elflein has won the 'Iron Buckeye' prize two times, which is given to six players twice a year for outstanding commitment to training, discipline, toughness, leadership and perseverance. The Pickerington resident has been included in some of the Buckeyes' top offensive lines already, with regards to yards per carry averages. Needless to say, he hopes to guide Ohio State to success on the field again in 2016.
