Four-Star Athlete Steele Chambers Joins The Ohio State!

Ohio State got a surprise when Steele Chambers committed to the Buckeyes last Wednesday evening. He comes in with a distinction of being a four-star player from Trinity Catholic, Georgia.

Illustrious as a leading athlete, Chambers is 6-foot-2, 215 pounds of athleticism. Considered in the top 30 athletes and ranked 340 overall in 2019, Chambers decided to play with Ohio State. His selection for Ohio was firm as he had many other options on the desk such as offers from Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State and Stanford.

Chambers was offered by the Buckeyes last October. He was quick to visit and made his first trip only weeks later, highlighted by the one point win over a fierce opponents, Penn State.

During the weekend, Chambers had the opportunity to have some sessions with defensive coaches Kerry Coombs and Greg Schiano, who held the post of assistant coordinator as well. The sessions were not focused on sports rather they had more to do with looking at life beyond sports and campuses.

Chambers came back to the campus late March to watch a session of spring camp. His family accompanied him and they went on to tour the campus, had a discussion with the head of the business school and also had a Friday meal with Urban Meyer, DC Schiano, Tony Alford and Bill Davis.

Chambers was a happy camper indeed. He had a good meeting with the faculty and trainers and had had to decide whether to stay on offense or to step in with the defense.

Chambers was enrolled as the sixth recruit of Ohio State's 19 class. He joined in with Sampson James, an Indiana running back. And other notable players such as tackle Doug Nester, from New Jersey Ronnie Hickman, defensive end Noah Potter and tackle Ryan Jacoby.

It was expected that Chambers might take some time in making his decision. With his focus on a demanding schedule that includes high school routines and sport-related travel, it was uncertain when Chambers would make a decision. However, having Alford come to town and a Spring Assessment Period, Chambers announced his decision on Wednesday.
