Ohio State Derails Purdue 49-0

With some extra motivation, Ohio State makes Purdue look worse than a pre-season opponent in a 49-0 victor that was over early. After falling to the Boilermakers last season 26-18 and losing in Madison to the Badgers 31-18 a week prior to this Saturday’s match-up, the Ohio State Buckeyes were fired up to show the conference and the country that they were still one of the best teams nationally.

Although their national ranking did not budge after a convincing win, Ohio State has to feel better about their team and their chances to win a Big Ten title this season. All the Buckeyes need now is a loss by Michigan State and a loss by Wisconsin and they can end the season were they were picked to place by the media before the season began.

Head Coach Jim Tressel told the media after the game that recent misery probably trumps year-old misery but that didn’t stop the coaching staff from continuously playing the loss to Purdue on the television screens in Woody Hayes center all of last week.

Purdue came into the game with some decent conference wins but looked like a team that didn’t belong in the conference as Ohio State completely shut down their offense and ran them over for a quick 21 points before the first minute of the second quarter had ticked off the clocks. Daniel Herron was the most proficient tailback for the Buckeyes and got the start. He finished with 16 carries, 74 yards and 2 touchdowns. But almost every tailback on the roster got a shot at the Boilermakers with Brandon Saine, Jaamal Berry, Carlos Hyde and Jordan Hall each getting at least five carries.

Terrelle Pryor was decent on the day with 16 completions for 270 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He remains reluctant to run after straining a quad and did not gain any yards on the ground. His two main targets, Dane Sanzenbacher and DeVier Posey both scored a touchdown and both finished with over 80 yards catching.

Ohio State will play another weak Big Ten opponent this weekend in Minnesota before entering a more difficult stretch, the final three November games against Penn State, Iowa and Michigan.
