Buckeye Bashing
Carson Palmer, starting Quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals,
appeared on a Los Angeles
radio program yesterday and laid into the Buckeyes and their fans. Here are Palmer’s comments on KLAC in Los Angeles
By Pete Quint
“I cannot stand the Buckeyes, and
having to live in Ohio
and hear those people talk about their team, it drives me absolutely nuts.”
"It's amazing to hear what
those guys think about that university and that football program and (Coach
Jim) Tressel and all the crap I've got to put up with being back there.”
"I just can't wait for two
years from now (actually 2009) when SC comes to the 'Shoe. Hopefully, we'll
have a home game that weekend and I go up there and watch us pound on them on
their own turf and put all the talk to rest, because I'm really getting sick of
it.”
"I just can't wait for this
game to get here, so they can come out to the Coliseum and experience L.A. and get an old
fashioned Pac-10 butt-whipping and go back to the Big Ten. I can't wait."
Relax Buckeye Faithful
Palmer has really ruffled the
feathers of Buckeye Nation as the Ohio
State fan base has voiced
their displeasure on local radio and other websites. I find it laughable that Buckeye fans are
allowing themselves to let comments like this get under their skin.
Relax Buckeye fans; Carson Palmer
is a USC homer, just like you and I are Ohio State
homers. He waives his SC flag proudly
just like we waive the Scarlet and Grey every chance we get. He has a right to root for his alma mater and
a right to not like another team no matter how misguided it may be.
As Buckeye fans wouldn’t it break
our hearts to hear A.J. Hawk back the Badgers or Nick Mangold give praise to Rutgers? How about
if Chris Spielman would root for Michigan
or Archie Griffin cheer for the Bearcats?
Fuel to the Fire
Carson’s comments are great and any Buckeye
fan or alum in his position would have done the same thing. The comments add fuel to the fire and give an
added storyline to the game. I’m glad Carson ripped into Ohio State,
this kind of fandom is fun but I’m also embarrassed by the way some of the more
vocal Buckeye fans have responded. Get
over your loud Buckeye selves and enjoy the game for college football. There are fans on both sides of the field and
getting angry because someone thinks differently than you do is just a waste of
energy.
