Robert Reynolds Suspended by the Titans

Former Buckeye Robert Reynolds had some success as a linebacker for the Ohio State silver bullets in 2003 before being drafted by the Tennessee Titans. His NFL career started with two decent seasons but has declined with a recent injury and some off the field issues.

Substance Abuse

Reynolds was suspended by the Tennessee Titans last week after violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. The Ohio State linebacker was picked by the Titans in the 5th round of the 2004 draft and played three years with the team on special teams mostly. The other two incidents Reynolds is somewhat famous for include a domestic dispute with his wife in 2006 and choking Wisconsin quarterback Jim Sorgi his final year with the Buckeyes.

The Choke

Ohio State fans will remember Reynolds when he got caught with his hand on Jim Sorgi’s throat when a pile broke up at the end of a play. That incident looked poorly on the whole Ohio State program and raised questions about dirty play by the defensive Buckeyes. Reynolds received a one game suspension and was unaffected as he was still drafted the following spring by the Titans.

Retirement

Reynolds’ agent told the press that he will likely now retire and not seek a new contract after his one year suspension for substance abuse. In his first year with the Titans, Reynolds played in 14 games and recorded 13 tackles. He followed up his rookie season with an even better sophomore performance, including 23 tackles and a blocked punt for a safety. He was placed on injured reserve in his final year with the team.
