Buckeye Alumni Troy Smith To Start for San Francisco

Former Buckeye QB and Heisman winner Troy Smith will start for the 49ers this week in London against the Broncos.

49er head coach announced that Troy Smith would start for the team in London on Sunday. Smith, the Ex-Raven has started 2 NFL games in his career. He was slated to be the starter for the Ravens in the 2008 season but he was sidelined with a very serious throat infection. Rookie QB Joe Flacco won the starting spot and never gave it back.

Smith went to the 49ers after being released by the Ravens earlier this year. He is replacing former 1st overall pick Alex Smith from BYU who was hurt last week. Alex is expected to be out 4 to 6 weeks. The 49ers are 1-6 and in desperate need of an offensive spark. Troy is very athletic and might be better able to avoid the pass rush. Alex Smith is more of a pocket passer.
