Carlos Hyde Removed From The Buckeye Team
Historically, the Ohio State football program has been one if the most dominant in all of college football. While they have had plenty of success, the program has also dealt with plenty of off the field incidents including recruiting violations and player arrests. These issues have led to the program having to deal with suspensions and program-wide penalties.
This weekend another Ohio State football player was arrested. This past Saturday night at almost 2am, running back Carlos Hyde was arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman in a popular downtown Columbus bar, The Sugar Bar. The morning after formal charges were filed, Hyde was released by the team for conduct detrimental to the team and the program. The punishment is a very clear indication that coach Urban Meyer will expect more out of his players and that off the field issues will not be taken lightly. Meyer led the Buckeyes to an undefeated season last year, but was unable to compete for the BCS championship as the team was in probation.
The loss of Carlos Hyde from the program could end up being a significant one. Last season Hyde was one of the team's best offensive weapons as he ran for over 900 yards. This upcoming season Hyde was a favorite to be the feature running back, which would have allowed him to make an even more significant contribution. Hyde, who was entering his senior year, is likely done playing college football and could face significant legal punishments, which could jeopardize his NFL career. Hopefully he will recover and get a shot with a team at the next level.
