Ohio State beats Purdue in the final minutes of the game last week leading the team to be ranked number 8 in the latest NCAAM AP Poll. The number three team in the nation, Purdue, saw their 19 game winning streak come to an end against Ohio State. This was due in part to the performance of junior, Keita Bates-Diop. His tip-in, with 2.8 seconds left on the clock, gave Ohio State their one point win against Purdue.
This would be the first Big Ten loss for Purdue. It would also put an end to their record winning streak. The epic 64-63 victory pushed the Buckeyes into a first place tie. The game, at times, seemed like a shoe-in for Purdue. At one point, during the second half of the game, Purdue led by a stout 14 points However, Ohio State proved they could handle the pressure whittling down this lead and several last-minute clutch plays.
Purdue players, Dakota Mathias and Isaac Haas, would attempt to do their part to secure a victory. Dakota Mathias scored 11 rebounds, 18 points, and 3 assists. Haas would draw several fouls and score a total of 18 points, most of which occurred in the first half. However, the inability of the rest of the team to sink the ball in the first half would cost the Boilermaker's a chance to open up an early lead.
The star players for the Buckeyes would include Bates-Diop, Andrew Dakich, Andre Wesson and Musa Jallow. A succession of three pointers and steady drives to the basket would eventually erode the slim Boilermaker lead. It would be the Buckeyes second game with Kam Williams, a senior guard for the team.
