Ryan Day Swaps Playbooks for Putters at the 2025 Memorial Tournament Pro-Am

DUBLIN, Ohio — Picture this: it’s a chilly Wednesday morning, May 28, 2025, and Ohio State football coach Ryan Day is standing on the 10th tee at Muirfield Village Golf Club, rubbing his hands together, maybe muttering to himself about how coaching a national championship team isn’t nearly as nerve-wracking as golfing with legends. Yesterday, at the Workday Golden Bear Pro-Am, part of the iconic Memorial Tournament presented by Workday, Day traded his headset for a driver, joining college football royalty Nick Saban and PGA Tour superstar Justin Thomas for a round that had Buckeye fans buzzing.

The Memorial, Jack Nicklaus’ pride and joy, is more than just a golf tournament—it’s a Columbus tradition, a chance to see big names swing clubs while raising money for causes like Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The Pro-Am, held the day before the main event kicked off today, May 29, is where celebs and amateurs get to mingle with golf pros on one of the toughest courses around. And let me tell you, Day’s group—rounded out by PGA Tour pro Corey Conners—was the one everyone was watching.

Teeing Off with Titans

When Day stepped up to the tee at 7:34 a.m., you could feel the energy. Fans bundled up against the morning chill were snapping pics and posting on X, where @NicoleShearintv
caught Day’s solid drive and shared it with a hyped-up caption: “What a drive from #Buckeye head coach Ryan Day here @MemorialGolf !” Another user, @JeffEisenband, couldn’t resist pointing out Day’s “little power fade” right in front of Saban, who probably wasn’t used to being upstaged. The two coaches, both giants in college football, had a blast trading jabs and swings, while Thomas, a two-time PGA champ, kept things light with his pro-level cool.

Day admitted he was feeling the heat. “It’s like my job isn’t stressful enough,” he laughed to himself as he pulled into Muirfield Village, according to cleveland.com. I mean, who wouldn’t be a little shaky hitting shots next to Saban, with his seven national titles, and Thomas, who makes golf look effortless? But Day held his own, flashing a swing that had folks on X, like @971thefan, raving about how he kept up with the big dogs.

More Than a Game

For Day, the day wasn’t just about chasing birdies—it was about connecting with the community. He and his wife, Nina, have been big supporters of the Memorial’s charitable side. Last year, they hung out with the Golden Cubs at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, dishing out milkshakes and signing autographs alongside Buckeye stars like Will Howard. This year’s Pro-Am was another way for Day to give back, with the event tied to a $1.45 million donation to the hospital and the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation, celebrated at a heartfelt ceremony honoring Barbara Nicklaus.

The Pro-Am was a star-studded affair, with NBA’s Stephen Curry, NFL great Peyton Manning, and even actor Rob Lowe out there swinging. The vibe was electric—part golf, part party, all for a good cause.

A Well-Earned Break

Fresh off Ohio State’s 2025 National Championship win over Notre Dame, Day’s been riding a high, and this round was a chance to soak it in. The guy’s been under a microscope, with Buckeye Nation analyzing every move, but yesterday he was just another golfer, grinning through the pressure of a tricky course. Fun fact: Day actually skipped playing in the main tournament this year due to a sore wrist—only his second time missing it since 2008, per The Columbus Dispatch. Still, his Pro-Am performance was one for the books.

As the Memorial Tournament tees off today, with Scottie Scheffler defending his 2024 title, fans are still talking about Day’s day out. Posts on X, like one from @SteveHelwagen, captured the thrill of seeing him alongside Saban and Thomas, with CBS Sports ready to bring the weekend’s action to screens everywhere.

Wrapping It Up

The 2025 Memorial Tournament runs through June 1, with Golf Channel and CBS covering the action and streaming on Paramount+ and Hulu Live. Gates open at 7 a.m. for early rounds and 9 a.m. on Saturday, so there’s plenty of time to catch the pros in action. For Day, it’s back to football, but his Pro-Am adventure—full of big swings, bigger laughs, and a whole lot of heart—gave Columbus a moment to cheer about. Want to learn more? Ohio State Baseball 2014

Ending the regular season against Northwestern, the Ohio State Buckeyes already know where they're headed. They'll play in the Big Ten tournament after the season ends. If they can beat Northwestern, they might wind up in fifth in the standings. Currently, they're at number six, which would land them in a matchup with a top-three team. The top-three teams are all considered powerhouses, and a first-round matchup could doom Ohio State baseball from the start.

Ohio State Baseball 2014 Preview

Ohio State has had a rough few years when it comes to baseball. The team is now in its longest absence from championship contention, and a tough schedule has placed the team further back in the pack than it has been in years past. Understanding 2014 means understanding what went wrong in 2013.

As a sports fan, there are two thing that I enjoy: watching sports and engaging in the sport yourself. If you play sports of any kind then you are obviously going to need a sports luggage bag in order to carry all the equipment and sports attire. If you are a die-hard fan of National Football League and you just can't get enough of it then you should consider getting an NFL luggage bag like me. These are stylized luggage bags that contain logos of the teams in the NFL, they are one way of declaring and showing your love and support towards your favorite NFL team.

beers

beers (Photo credit: uberculture)

I play it, but I never drink while I’m batting, or running, that’s just asking for trouble. I always wait until after the running is over and all the balls have been caught. Beer has never gotten me into a bench-clearing brawl with the other team, or got me thrown out of the game for kicking dirt at the ump (that may be false). No, I must say that of all the types of booze that I’ve played ball with with before, beer is the most sportsmanlike.

Sell your Baseball Rookie Card in Arizona

If you are like many adult males in the US, you have a collection of baseball cards worth quite a bit of money that you saved from when you were a child. You might have at one time tried to sell them at a trade show, online, or at a garage sale but was unable to obtain a good price. I recently came across an Arizona based buyer and seller of baseball cards that you should contact.

I have a baseball Mantle card that I always thought was worth quite a bit and all the pricing books supported this feeling. I was never able to get a price close to what was reported to be it’s value until I came across IBuyAndSellBaseballCards.com. Maybe for you, it’s not Mickey Mantle but a baseball rookie card, this buyer and seller of cards is looking for what you want to sell.

As long as your cards are vintage cards, pre-1969, they will be happy to work with you. And if you have other cards in addition to baseball cards and don’t have the time to sell them properly, IButAndSellBaseballCards.com will purchase football, basketball, and hockey cards too. Take a look at their services today.

Ohio State Navy Midshipmen Football

Ohio State and Jim Tressel honor the US Naval Academy.

Being a graduate and an Ohio State fan, the University has provided a lot of reasons to be proud but Coach Tressel and the Administration added one today—The welcome given to the Naval Academy.

By Bill Smith

Local radio stations had covered the idea of giving the men from Navy a standing ovation not only for their play on the field but most of all for those they represent—the best and bravest men and women that have volunteered to protect all of us so that we can enjoy a football game in safety on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

But OSU did the fans one better. For the first time in the 120 year history of the game at Ohio State, the two teams came on the field together as one.

There are a lot of things to be concerned about. The way that Navy ran on the Buckeyes D was disturbing. The fact that OSU could not run up the middle effectively was a major problem. The trouble the O line had in protecting the QB against the Navy pass rush is serious given the fact that USC will be here next week. Given the unusual style of Navy, it is hard to tell how much of the trouble was system rather than execution. But overall none of that matters much.

Ohio State and our fans gave a welcome to the Naval Academy. That is a memory that I will cherish for a long time.

That's what I think. Tell me what you think.

ESPN to air OSU vs. USC game in 3-D

ESPN plans to air the OSU vs. USC game on three screens, in Columbus, Los Angeles and Dallas. The screening will mark just the third game in history to be shown in 3-D. ESPN will utilize seven cameras to broadcast the event. "The results of this research will enable ESPN to quantify what it takes to produce, transmit and enable the 3-D experience for our fans," said Anthony Bailey, ESPN's vice president of emerging technologies. Past airings of games, including the Florida vs. Oklahoma National Championship game in 3-D last year have been mired in difficulties and technical issues, but the overall effect has been tremendous, with positive reviews from viewers. Tickets to the 3-D showing will be given away to fans who listen to ESPN affiliates in the cities where the game will be showing.

Six Big Ten teams receive votes in Associated Press preseason poll

Ohio State, Penn State and Iowa cracked the top 25 in the AP preseason poll. Illinois and Michigan State received votes, but landed just outside the top 25 at 27 and 29 respectively. Northwestern was the final Big Ten team to receive media votes. The Big Ten is also only one of three conferences to have multiple teams in the top 10.

Michigan to use three quarterbacks in opener

Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez announced that he will use three quarterbacks in the opening game against Western Michigan. Rodriguez will use Tate Forcier, Denard Robinson and Nick Sheridan. Rodriguez has given each quarterback the chance to steal the starting job, but he obviously doesn’t have his heart set on any single quarterback to run his system yet. Rodriguez is hoping that either freshman Forcier or Robinson will take the reigns and lead the team, after all, Rodriguez did recruit them to run his system.

Minnesota to face Greg Paulus and Syracuse in week 1

From the hardwood to the gridiron, basketball player turned quarterback Greg Paulus has worked his way into the starting quarterback position at Syracuse University, just months after announcing he would use his final year of NCAA eligibility to play football. Paulus was a tremendous quarterback in high school, was a Parade All-American, and could have played at a number of Division I schools. However, he decided to pass on football to play basketball at Duke University. Paulus will have his first test against a Gopher team that went 7-6 last year, including 0-2 vs. AP opponents.
