Ohio State football recruiting class stands at 22 after two more commitments
Ohio
State football coach Jim Tressel landed his fourth blue-chip recruit in
two days on Monday, when cornerback Corey Brown and safety Bradley
McDougald made oral commitments to the Buckeyes.
Brown, 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, will be a senior this fall at
Gateway High School in Monroeville, Pa. He is ranked as the eighth-best
cornerback in the country by the Internet recruiting service Scout.com.
McDougald, 6-foot-1 and 190, plays at Dublin's Scioto High. Scout ranks him as the nation's 47th-best safety.
On Sunday, OSU earned commitments from Scout's top-ranked fullback,
Carlos Hyde of Naples, Fla.; and 21st-ranked cornerback Justin Green of
Louisville, Ky.
The latest commitments bring OSU's total to 22. Ten of those
players are ranked among the top 10 at their position by Scout.com.
High school football players can announce their school of choice at any
time, but they are not bound to a decision until they sign a national
letter of intent in February of their senior year.

Just as DTI finished wrapping up how crazy this past weekend was for
Ohio State fans, the Buckeyes landed commitments number 21 and 22 for
the class of 2009. Today, shortly after 3:00 p.m., Monroeville (PA)
Gateway WR/CB Corey Brown (pictured above, left) gave his verbal
commitment to the Buckeyes and later in the afternoon it was announced
that Dublin Scioto DB Bradley McDougald (above, right) pledged his
services to Jim Tressel’s staff as well. The Buckeyes continued their
recruitment of the 2009 class at a record-breaking pace and available
spots continue to close up in, what could be, the best recruiting class
in Ohio State history.
Brown, listed at 6′2″ and 180-pounds, picked the Bucks over
Pittsburgh, Michigan, West Virginia, and North Carolina, among others.
OSU plans to use him at the corner back position, due to his great size
and strength, but Brown is also being considered at wide out, as he is
a very good receiver for Gateway, the same school as his good friend
and fellow 2009 Buckeye, Dorian Bell. Brown gives the Buckeyes
tremendous versatility on either side of the ball, as he is just a pure
athlete. He racked up 23 receptions for over 500 yards and 3 touchdowns
as receiver and added 40 tackles and 4 interceptions as a junior for
the Gators in 2007.
McDougald was a late bloomer to the recruiting scene, but his hard
work and natural talent eventually showed, as the hometown Buckeyes, as
well as other programs such as Michigan State, Wisconsin, Illinois,
Indiana, West Virginia, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and more,
vied for the services of the 6′1″ 190-pound athlete from Dublin Scioto.
McDougald, like Brown, played on both sides of the ball for the Irish,
but will likely play safety in Columbus. Accumulating for over 1,600
yards and 13 touchdowns on offense as a junior in 2007, Jim Tressel’s
staff knows they are getting a superb athlete who will be able to run
around the field and make plays. McDougald did not start playing corner
back until late last season, but picked up the position quickly,
intercepting a pass and making some great plays in the secondary. He
joins Brown, Dominic Clark, Justin Green, Jamie Wood, and C.J. Barnett
as members of the Buckeyes secondary for the 2009 class.
With 22 verbal commitments, Jim Tressel’s staff continues to do
wonders, as we are still in June. Spots in the 2009 class are filling
up quickly and only certain players have received the word that they
can wait to make their decisions (see: Marcus Hall, Corey Adams, Chris
Watt, EJ Banks). If a player, especially one in the secondary wants to
commit to the Bucks, they better pull the trigger soon. The Buckeyes
may be done with this class by the time July comes to an end, enabling
the staff to start going after Class of 2010 players. Only time will
tell who the next Buckeye will be, but for now D.J. Hunter, Jaamal
Berry, Vlad Emilien, Brandon McGee, Jonathan Newsome, Pat Muldoon, John
Martinez, and all the other players with OSU offers better hurry up and
commit if they want to wear the Scarlet and Gray.

Ohio State football
'09 class keeps growing
OSU gets commitments from Dublin Scioto safety, Pennsylvania athlete
Tuesday,
June 24, 2008 3:00 AM
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Even if space is almost gone in the fast-filling Ohio State 2009 football recruiting class,
Bradley McDougald said he was not sensing pressure from Jim Tressel and his coaching staff to jump
on board.
Nevertheless, the safety from Dublin Scioto made the decision yesterday. He became the 22nd
commitment moments after Corey Brown of Monroeville (Gateway), Pa., took the 21st spot.
"I was just ready to get it over with; I didn't want to delay it if I knew where I wanted to
go," said McDougald, who, like Brown, is 6 feet 1 and 190 pounds. "I thought I should just come out
with it. I was ready to be a Buckeye."
That's about what Brown said 200 miles away after he announced his decision, picking Ohio State
over Pittsburgh and Michigan. He joined a teammate -- Dorian Bell, a blue-chip linebacker who
announced his choice a month ago -- in choosing OSU.
"I picked Ohio State really because of everything you can think of," Brown said. "The academics,
the coaches, the facilities, the tradition, the great players they've got now, the way they keep
playing for championships -- they've got everything you want up there."
McDougald said he has seen that firsthand most of his life.
"Growing up here, being around it 24/7, it's always been a dream to play for the Buckeyes,"
McDougald said. "Going down to the Ohio State camp (for rising high school seniors) on Friday, I
think the coaches were impressed with me and I was impressed with the coaches."
Like Brown, he was offered a scholarship by Ohio State awhile back. But even as the class began
to fill in unprecedented early fashion, "they never gave me an ultimatum," McDougald said.
There was a good reason, said Bill Kurelic, a recruiting analyst for Bucknuts.com.
"He's one of the top athletes in central Ohio, and he's the tall kind of safety they're looking
for these days," Kurelic said.
Brown, whom Kurelic rated as the sixth-best prospect in Pennsylvania, played defensive back but
is also the kind of sure-handed receiver that teams desire. He said he could play either one in
college, whatever the coaches want. He picked Ohio State over Alabama, West Virginia, Notre Dame
and North Carolina.
"He doesn't have blazing speed," Kurelic said, "but he's a great player, which is why so many
schools were after him." http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/sports/stories/2008/06/24/osufb24.ART_ART_06-24-08_C3_LMAIP3S.html?sid=101
