Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel has secured commitments from 13 recruits for the class of 2009.
Corey Linsley can fling the shot put without distraction these days, now that he has decided to
play football for Ohio State.
Linsley, an offensive lineman from Boardman, said yesterday that he has committed to Ohio State,
becoming the 13th member of the 2009 class. Rated as the third-best line prospect in Ohio by
analyst Bill Kurelic of Bucknuts.com, Linsley (6 feet 4, 285 pounds) chose Ohio State over
Stanford, among others.
"My coach (D.J. Ogilvie) and I sat down and figured out, on paper, Ohio State was the best
decision I could make," Linsley said. "And in my heart, growing up a Buckeye fan, it felt like the
right time to do it."
Now the junior can concentrate on his other athletic pursuits, taking part in the discus and
shot put. He has the second-longest put of the year (58 feet) in Division I.
"Yeah, I'm looking to win state (in the shot put); I'm looking forward to coming down to
Columbus and winning it," Linsley said.
The Buckeyes' 2009 class is already more than half full, and it's not even May. They are also
winning the competition for in-state football talent, Kurelic said.
Ohio State has commitments from Jack Mewhort of Toledo St. John's and Linsley. If Cleveland
Glenville's Marcus Hall commits, "they will have a clean sweep of the top three offensive line
prospects in Ohio," Kurelic said.
Rivals.com considers Hall to be the 34th-best overall prospect in the country.
Linsley is ranked 154th by Rivals.com. Scout.com rates him as the fourth-best guard prospect
nationally; Mewhort is 20th among tackles.
