Cameron Heyward Ready For Mini Camp and the Pittsburgh Steelers

Former Ohio State Buckeye Cameron Heyward was selecting in the first round of the NFL draft yesterday by the Pittsburgh Steelers. With the 31st pick in the 2011 draft the defending AFC-champions selecting the impressive defensive end to help solidify their 3-4 defense this coming season. He became the 17th first round Ohio State draft pick since 2000 and the 14th first round draft selection since Jim Tressel took over the team.

By Steve Patterson

Heyward is the son of NFL great Craig ‘Iron head’ Heyward who played running back for the University of Pittsburgh in 1987 and was fifth in the Heisman vote that year. Heyward grew up in Pittsburgh and has plenty of family in the area, so playing his NFL career there should be cozy for the Buckeye All-Big Ten Honoree. He was the 12th defensive lineman selecting in the first round on Thursday but feels that he found the perfect situation in the Superbowl contending franchise.

Pittsburgh had one of the best run defenses in the league last season and was first in scoring defense. But the team wants to get younger on the defensive line and also selecting a first round defensive lineman last year in Missouri stand-out Ziggy Hood.
