Wide Receiver : Ohio State Football Depth Chart 2012
Urban Meyer was rough on the receivers coming out of Spring camp this year as he felt they lacked motivation at the position. He feels a lot better about the group in Fall camp with the season a couple of weeks away from starting. A look at the Ohio State Football Depth Chart, 2012, shows a lot of youth at the receiver position but a lot of possible upside with an improved offensive and a new coaching staff.
Corey Brown is the top receiver and one of the fastest guys on the team. Devin Smith who caught some of the longest passes last season returns and is considered a starter and ready to make some more plays. Jake Stoneburner was moved to receiver after playing tight end the last couple of years and should also see quite a bit of action. Others in the mix include Michael Thomas, Evan Spencer, and Tyrone Williams (who wasn’t on the depth chart at the beginning of Fall camp).
Summer work with the quarterbacks, Braxton Miller and Kenny Guiton, helped the receivers to improve their timing and patterns. Brown battled back from an injury in the Spring to really impress Meyer and wide receiver’s coach Zach Smith. Williams (TY) has shown the most improvement from the Spring and could be used in the end-zone due to his size at 6’6” 229 lbs. Overall they show great promise in an offense that has to pass more than last year.
