Latest Ohio State Buckeye Fall Camp News
On Tuesday, on the 1st day in pads at Ohio State Buckeye fall camp, the players had lots of smiles on their faces as they went back to their locker room. However, Coach Urban Meyer does not expect these smiles to remain for a long time. For 3 days, Meyer's staff have been able to assess the strengths of the Buckeyes, following a 12-0 season. Nonetheless, they have had the opportunity to note which weaknesses have to be tackled as well.
Although, on Tuesday, Meyer did not learn a huge amount about his players --- it was just the 3rd practice day and the 1st day using pads --- there were some players who stood out. One such player was Braxton Miller, the junior quarterback. Meyer says that Miller, who last year achieved a total offense 3,310 yards school record, has improved his relationship with the receivers, compared to last season. Also, Meyer highlighted the back end leadership of the Ohio State defense, with seniors C.J. Barnett and Christian Bryant.
A couple of freshmen who are predicted to lose their stripes 1st are punter Cameron Johnston and Dontre Wilson, the running back. Native Australian Johnston is 21 years old, and a late inclusion in the recruiting class this year. On the other hand, Wilson was enrolled for his "athleticism", but Meyer regards him more as a running back, as opposed to a receiver. Johnston has been earmarked as the number 1 punter and brings a distinctive, athletic dimension to that position.
