Tyler Moeller Gets a 6th Year

Ohio State safety Tyler Moeller received word from the NCAA that he will be eligible to play in 2011 for the Buckeyes. This will be his 6th season with the Buckeyes after red-shirting one season and getting a medical red-shirt for 2010 when he torn a pectoral muscle early and couldn’t complete the year. October 2nd against Illinois he torn a muscle that had been partially torn for the past two years in his chest. He told reporters that his mind has been raising the past two weeks awaiting a decision.

He also lost 2009 while recovery from a head injury suffered in a bar fight in Florida. This season and last season combined were enough for the NCAA to provide one more year to the senior safety/linebacker combo. He had been one of the leaders on the team in tackles prior to his injury and his defensive intensity is something that is inspiring to watch and to play along-side.

The OSU compliance office along with Moeller’s mother compiled all the needed forms along with a personal letter written by Tyler. He remained optimistic during the process and felt confident that the extra year would be granted.
