High School All Star Games are Here

I like to see the players that are going to other Big 10 schools or MAC schools show what they have. There are always a number of players that could play at Ohio State but just didn’t have the luck that others did.

Writer’s Q&A: Do you watch or attend the high school all star games over the summer like the Big 33 or the North/South Ohio All Star? What do you like about the games if you watch or attend?

Bill Smith: From a coaching standpoint, an all star game gives you a good idea of which players can learn a new system including terminology. It also gives you a good idea who are the natural leaders. I have always enjoyed them. Like any game, you learn more live than on TV. But I will watch Whats-a-matta U play School of Perpetually Misery.

Pete Quint: I'm really not much of a high school football fan.  Many central Ohioans are but I didn't grow up in an area that didn’t have much of a winning football tradition so I don't get too excited about that level of football.  I do enjoy reading about how Buckeye recruits do in the game but I won't invest the time to watch it.

Ryan Leonardo: I have heard about them, but have never attended.  I have been to the McDonalds basketball game twice, but never to a football one.

Steve Patterson: I attended the Ohio North/South All Star game last year with a press pass and got some good interview material and photos from the sideline and on the field after the game. I like to see the players that are going to other Big 10 schools or MAC schools show what they have. There are always a number of players that could play at Ohio State but just didn’t have the luck that others did. The Big 33 is harder to see but a couple of years ago it was live on the Internet and the stream wasn’t bad. The game is a pretty nice game with similar type players as the North/South Ohio game. They like to promote their history of having all the great Pennsylvania players play in the game before going on to greatness in college and the NFL.

Looks like the Big 33 is the game this year with a number of OSU commits playing.
