Ohio State Buckeyes v California Golden Bears
California has started the season with a loss to Nevada at home and a close win against Southern Utah, so the Ohio State Buckeyes could have an easy win at home this coming Saturday. California was horribly undisciplined last season giving up 941 yards on 98 penalties, ranked near the top of most penalized teams in the country. And this season has started off in similar fashion, not that the Buckeyes did have their share a penalties against Central Florida last week.
So far this year, the Golden Bears have been penalized 80.5 yards per game. That is like giving away a touchdown before they even start the game. Cal Head Coach Jeff Tedford needs to get the team to play within the rules of the game if he is going to have any success this season. He is 13-14 including 2010, 2011 and the first 2 games of 2012, not a great record.
The Golden Bears do have some talent so they might be productive on offense when they come to town this weekend. Senior running backs Isi Sofele and CJ Anderson average 119 yards per game with an average run of 5.5 each carry. And quarterback Zach Maynard completes 65% of his passes averaging 237 yards each time out.
But the Bears defense is suspect as well. They tend to defend the rush well but give up a lot of yards through the air. Braxton Miller should be able to dominate this game in a similar fashion to the stats he put up the first two games of the season.
