Ohio State Spring Game Rosters

Ohio State is set to scrimmage in the Shoe on Saturday in front of a large crowd on a nice spring day. The team has been split in two with the coaches breaking the seniors into two squads and then having a draft to select the rest of the teams. The results are interesting and should make for a nice exhibition for the fans this weekend.

17 Joe Bauserman
14 Justin Siems

2 Terrelle Pryor
14 Justin Siems

Pryor was the first selection overall and will get to run later in the game so that is an advantage for the Gray.

Running Back

1 Boom Herron
33 Joe Gantz
35 Bo DeLande
46 K.C. Christian (injured)

24 Marcus Williams
3 Brandon Saine

Scarlet has the advantage here with the returning second string Herron in the backfield. Reports out of camp are that Saine is having a really good spring so we'll have to see on Saturday if he can outshine Boom.

37 James Georgiades
41 Jermil Martin

49 Adam Homan

Not all that an important position anymore but the Gray have an advantage as Homan has played well all spring.

Wide Receiver

16 Ryan Schuck
8 DeVier Posey
7 Lamaar Thomas
81 Ricky Crawford
15 James Jackson
84 Josh Springer
88 Antonio Ranieri
12 Dane Sanzenbacher (injured)
83 Dan Potokar (injured)

82 Ray Small
5 Taurian Washington
6 Grant Schwartz
89 Garrett Hummel
83 Joe Cech
87 Chris Roark

Scarlet has a better set of starters at the wide receiver position with Posey, Thomas and Jackson. And Bauserman could throw the ball around a lot more than Pryor so the numbers should favor them as well.

Tight End

48 Spencer Smith
81 Nic DiLillo (questionable)

86 Jake Ballard
11 Jacob Stoneburner

The Gray have the first and second string tight ends so they have a clear advantage. If they use them more than once during the game is the only question.

Offensive Line

64 Jim Cordle
70 Bryant Browning
55 Andy Miller
75 Mike Adams
77 Connor Smith
68 Evan Blankenship
69 Zach Slagle
76 J.B. Shugarts (injured)

66 Andrew Moses
65 Justin Boren
50 Michael Brewster
73 Josh Kerr
72 Scott Sika
74 Jack Mewhort
57 Chris Malone

Scarlet hands down has a better line-up on the line. Cordle, Miller and Adams at tackle with Browning, Smith and Blankenship at guards is a very good group. Cordle could move to center and Smith could work in at the center spot too. The Gray team is lacking tackles but the middle three aren't bad with Boren, Brewster and Mewhort getting to start.

Defensive Line

84 Doug Worthington
72 Dexter Larimore
96 Willie Mobley
56 Dalton Britt
87 Lawrence Wilson (injured)

9 Robert Rose (questionable)
92 Todd Denlinger
97 Cameron Heyward
53 Garrett Goebel
95 Don Matheney
43 Nathan Williams (injured)
94 Keith Wells (injured)
57 Tom Ingham (injured)

The Gray line-up here is pretty solid. Heyward plays on the outside with Denlinger and Goebel in the middle. That's a good group with the Hewyard causing trouble in the backfield. With the Scarlet group it's not clear who plays outside. Worthington and Larimore in the middle is very good but Mobley has yet to show in a game that he can be a force inside or outside.

90 Thaddeus Gibson
91 Stewart Smith

98 Solomon Thomas

Gibson is unstoppable so the Scarlet has the advantage. Thomas had a nice jersey scrimmage with 7 sacks put I think Gibson will cause more trouble on Saturday. He'll be able to get around whoever plays tackle for the Gray but the battle will be getting to Pryor before he throws it away or takes off running.

38 Austin Spitler
26 Tyler Moeller
42 Andrew Sweat
41 Tony Jackson
46 Grant Dziak

36 Brian Rolle
6 Etienne Sabino
32 Storm Klein
51 Ross Homan (questionable)
44 Zach Boren (injured)

Pretty Even matchup with Spitlet, Moeller and Sweat vs Rolle, Sabino and Klein. We should get a pretty good feel for who is going to start in the fall after watching these groupings compete on the field this weekend.

Corner Back

13 Andre Amos
5 Chimdi Chekwa
14 C.J. Barnett
30 Donnie Evege
17 J.J. Emmenecker

10 Devon Torrence
18 Travis Howard
32 Taylor Rice

All this defensive backfield talent and Ohio State lost Jenkins and Washington to the NFL. Just by the number of known talents you have to give the Scarlet the advantage with four against two. It will be fun to see those that haven't played much before on the field for a good number of snaps.

21 Anderson Russell
19 Orhian Johnson
25 Rocco Pentello
24 Nate Ebner
20 Nate Oliver (questionable)

4 Kurt Coleman
7 Jermale Hines
16 Zach Domicone
23 Jamie Wood
29 Chris Maxwell
8 Aaron Gant (injured)

Coleman and Hines have the advantage for the Scarlet. Both stepped up their play last season and should play a lot this coming year.

Special Teams

17 Ben Buchanan
12 Devin Barclay

48 Jon Thoma
17 Ben Buchanan

53 Patrick Howe
52 Gar Chappelear

20 Aaron Pettrey

39 Derek Erwin
91 Gregory Eisenhardt

96 Jacob McQuaide
56 Garrett Dornbrook
62 Matt Heater

Thoma has experience along with Pettrey while Erwin and Buchanan are the new names. Having Pettrey to kickoff and kick field goals is a good advantage for the Gray.
