Calf Strain Sidelines Linebacker Austin Spitler for Camp

The Bellbrook High School standout linebacker Austin Spitler has had to wait a long time to get his chance to start, sitting behind All-American James Laurinaitis. And now he will have to wait a little bit longer as he strained a calf muscle during practice on Monday and will need to sit out until the first or second game of the season.

Spitler was first on the depth chart at middle linebacker with Ross Homan and Tyler Moeller on the outside. Now Homan is the only for sure starter with Brian Rolle, Andrew Sweat, Etienne Sabino, and Storm Klein looking to secure a position for the Fall.

The 6’3” 235lbs linebacker has been with the program since 2005 when he redshirted. He has played the majority of his time on special teams getting to see action last year at linebacker on several occasions. He suffered a sprained knee against Troy in 2008 but came back to play against Michigan State where he recovered a fumble by the Buckeyes on a punt return.
