Maurice Wells arrived in Columbus in 2005 after leading the state of Florida in rushing as a junior at Jacksonville Sandalwood. One of the best running backs in the country that year coming out of high school he was selected to play in the Army All American Bowl and committed to Ohio State over offers from many of the best programs.
Playing as a freshman, Maurice played in 9 of the 12 games in 2005 rushing for over 190 yards on the season. As a sophomore, he played in all 13 games with a total of 171 yards for the year and one touchdown. His junior year saw additional advancement as he reached 367 for the year with 3 touchdowns on the ground.
Showing great speed and a burst in open field, Maurice continued to support the team with his rushing ability and good hands out of the backfield for four straight years. 2008 was a difficult year statistically for many of the offensive players that did well the year before. Maurice completed his senior season with 129 yards on 39 rushes with an additional 6 receptions for 42 yards. Ohio State won the Big Ten and beat Michigan all four years Maurice was a member of the team.
