Buckeyes Duron Carter and Keith Wells Transfer

News out yesterday and today shows how keeping your grades in order, having a college life, and playing Division 1 football isn’t cut out for everyone. Ohio State receiver Duron Carter transferred to Coffeyville Community College after becoming ineligible for the Rose Bowl last year, missing Spring Camp this year, and not being ready academically for the fall. He will not be able to return to OSU until the Winter. Defensive End Keith Wells has also left the program for unknown reasons, with the Columbus Dispatch speculating it is also for academic concerns.

If Carter is able to return to Ohio State in January after working hard in the classroom this fall, he will have 2 more years to showcase his potential on the gridiron before graduating. Wells was going to be a red-shirted sophomore this coming year, competing for the open defensive end position made available by the departure of Thaddeus Gibson. Wells had the athletic talent and the physical ability to be something special when he arrived on campus two years ago. He played his freshman year in a limited role before redshirting last season.

Also in possible academic trouble is incoming freshman running back Roderick Smith. Smith is one of the best tailbacks in the country coming out of Harding in Fort Wayne. The rest of the 2010 class (minus Jamel Turner) has arrived on campus as they begin summer classes in preparation for the fall. Smith was set to join them but has not enrolled at Ohio State at this time according to reports. He selected Ohio State over offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue and Tennessee. If he qualifies this summer, he can enroll in the Fall.
